CROATIAN ADAPTATION AND VALIDATION OF THE PERCEIVED IMPLICIT RATIONING OF NURSING CARE (PIRNCA) QUESTIONNAIRE: A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY.
The aim was to perform adaptation and validation of the Perceived Implicit Rationing of Nursing Care. Implicit delaying of nursing care is an intermediate step, linking nurses with the quality of outcomes for patients and nurses, and it is the result of prioritization of health care measures within the assigned group of patients cared for by nurses. The Perceived Implicit Rationing of Nursing Care instrument is a tool used to assess the rationing of care in nursing practice. ⋯ Additionally, the reliability of the whole questionnaire was determined by using the internal consistency coefficient Cronbach alpha on the Perceived Implicit Rationing of Nursing Care with 31 of 0.96 particles, which is extremely high internal consistency reliability. In conclusion, the study found a high level of reliability and validity of the translated Perceived Implicit Rationing of Nursing Care questionnaire, fully comparable to that of the original. The questionnaire can be used to assess the phenomenon of implicit care rationing in Croatian hospitals.

Treatment of glioblastoma is challenging due to its aggressive and highly invasive nature, and no significant advances in survival have been achieved recently. The aim of our retrospective study was identification of predictive factors and consequent survival outcome in patients who underwent surgical and oncologic treatment of glioblastoma. The study was conducted at the Department of Neurosurgery, Osijek University Hospital Centre. ⋯ Statistical analysis of study results revealed a significant impact of postoperative radiotherapy (p=0.002) and chemotherapy (p=0.016) on progression-free survival and overall survival (p=0.001 and p=0.009, respectively). Postoperative Karnofsky performance scale (p=0.027) was found to be significant in progression-free survival, and so was the interval between surgery and commencement of oncologic therapy (p=0.049). In conclusion, overall survival and prognosis in the treatment of glioblastoma remain poor, although prompt approach in postoperative adjuvant treatments improved progression-free survival.

FORAMEN OVALE AND FORAMEN ROTUNDUM: CHARACTERIZATION OF POSTNATAL DEVELOPMENT.
The sphenoid bone development occurs in both prenatal and postnatal periods. Sphenoid bone openings are used as surgical landmarks and are of great importance for neurosurgeons in everyday practice. The aim of this study was to identify morphological characteristics, postnatal development and remodeling, as well as clinical aspect of the sphenoid bone openings and to investigate their relationship and difference in size. ⋯ The most common shape of foramen ovale on both sides was oval, followed by the round, almond and elongated shapes. Modest to strong positive correlations between all foramina and age for the whole sample and both subsamples were presented, except for the right foramen rotundum area in the male subsample, which did not show significant correlation with age. Our study revealed changes in postnatal development and anatomy of foramen ovale and foramen rotundum, primarily in the aspects of size and shape, and should contribute to reducing the risk of damage to neurovascular structures during surgical procedures.

THE EFFECT OF LOCAL AND SYSTEMIC FACTORS ON DENTAL IMPLANT FAILURE - ANALYSIS OF 670 PATIENTS WITH 1260 IMPLANTS.
The etiopathogenesis of dental implant failure is multifactorial and may include numerous local and systemic factors, however, studies including both local and systemic factors are still lacking. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate whether periodontal disease, oral hygiene index, i.e. bleeding on probing (BOP), full mouth plaque index (FMPI), smoking, systemic diseases, as well as implant characteristics (length and diameter) affect failure of implant-prosthodontic therapy. Data on 670 patients were retrieved in whom 1260 dental implants had been placed and followed-up for at least five to ten years. ⋯ There were no significant differences in BOP and FMPI between patients with and without diabetes at 5-year follow-up. Atherosclerosis had a significant negative effect on BOP, but not on FMPI at 5-year follow-up. It is concluded that periodontal disease had a significant impact on the implant-prosthodontic therapy.

99mTc-MIBI SPECT/CT SCINTIGRAPHY AND ULTRASOUND OF THE ANTERIOR NECK REGION IN DIAGNOSING PARATHYROID GLAND PATHOLOGY IN PATIENTS WITH THYROID NODULES.
Parathyroid scintigraphy with 99mTc-MIBI is an imaging technique used in nuclear medicine and performed in patients with suspected hyperparathyroidism (HPT). The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of this technique in patients who, along with suspected HPT, also have thyroid nodules. Retrospective analysis included a period of 8 years (2006-2013). ⋯ Seven (46%) patients had negative FNAC findings and PTH in the aspirate. The study showed scintigraphy to have high sensitivity (98%) in detecting patients with pathologic changes in the parathyroid glands. In patients with suspected HPT, scintigraphy needs to be combined with FNAC and PTH determination in the aspirate due to its low specificity of 28%.
