PRIMARY HYPERPARATHYROIDISM AND SERUM CALCIUM IN BREAST CANCER PATIENTS EVALUATED FOR LOW BONE MASS - A SINGLE CENTER EXPERIENCE.
The bone health guidelines for breast cancer (BC) patients recommend bone mineral density (BMD) testing. Patients with low BMD and elevated serum calcium levels (SCLs) are further evaluated for primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). We aimed to determine the prevalence of PHPT in treated BC patients with low BMD and analyze the association of SCLs with histopathologic tumor features and cancer treatment. ⋯ We found a higher prevalence of PHPT in treated BC patients compared to the general population. Higher SCLs show a trend of positive correlation with some more aggressive histopathologic tumor features and with immunotherapy. The results of this study suggest that assessment of SCLs should be routinely performed to rule out PHPT in treated BC patients with low BMD.

Case ReportsHIP ARTHROSCOPY: RESIDUAL CAM DEFORMITY COMBINED WITH LOOSE BONY FRAGMENT IN HIP CAPSULE.
Hip arthroscopy is a minimally invasive, effective and innovative orthopedic procedure with a relatively low rate of complications. In our patient, residual cam deformity and a bone fragment that remained in the front hip capsule after hip arthroscopy performed three years before caused thigh numbness, muscle fasciculations, and paresthesia. ⋯ Revision hip arthroscopy was performed and the loose fragment in addition to residual cam deformity was removed. Resolution of pain and anterior thigh numbness was reported after the revision surgery.

Case ReportsDELAYED EFFECT OF VNS ON INTERICTAL EPILEPTIFORM DISCHARGES AND PHARMACORESISTANCE IN A PATIENT WITH REFRACTORY PERINATAL POSTISCHEMIC EPILEPSY.
A 20-year-old female with refractory perinatal postischemic catastrophic epilepsy and frequent daily generalized atonic, tonic, tonic-clonic and focal seizures was hospitalized in the progressive phase of illness. The diagnosis was confirmed by semiology, interictal electroencephalogram (EEG), long-term video EEG monitoring, and brain magnetic resonance imaging. Repeated interictal EEG findings showed generalized spike and slow wave complexes with a 2-3 Hz frequency. ⋯ She was treated with various antiepileptic drugs without improvement. After verification of her incompetence for normal autonomous living, which resulted in very low quality of life, this patient with refractory epilepsy underwent implantation of vagus nerve stimulator (VNS). In this case report, we present delayed effect of VNS on interictal epileptiform discharges and pharmacoresistance.

Case ReportsPATIENT CLINICAL CONDITION IN RELATION TO HYPOXEMIA AND CHEST X-RAY CHANGES IN NOVEL CoV-19 PNEUMONIA: A CASE REPORT.
Persistent changes on chest x-ray and hypoxemia in arterial blood gas analyses have been described in several cases in novel CoV-19 virus (nCoV-19) patients. These changes are usually not expressed to a large extent. Our goal was not only to present a patient with comorbidities in whom residual pulmonary infiltrates remained with consequent hypoxemia after extubation, but also to show that these changes do not always correlate with the clinical condition. In summary, despite chest x-ray changes and hypoxemia, with appropriate respiratory physiotherapy, the patient had a satisfactory clinical status.

HIGHER FREQUENCY OF GERMINAL MATRIX-INTRAVENTRICULAR HEMORRHAGE IN MODERATE AND LATE PRETERM AND EARLY TERM NEONATES WITH INTRAUTERINE GROWTH RESTRICTION COMPARED TO HEALTHY ONES.
Germinal matrix-intraventricular brain hemorrhage is mostly found in preterm neonates, but may also occur in term neonates. The aim of this study was to analyze the prevalence and severity of this type of hemorrhage in moderate and late preterm and early term neonates with intrauterine growth restriction. In the prospective analysis, 100 newborns were examined, i.e. 70 with intrauterine growth restriction and 30 as a control group. ⋯ There were no neonates with hemorrhage grade 3 or 4. The predominant type of germinal matrix-intraventricular hemorrhage in the intrauterine growth restriction group was hemorrhage grade 1. Germinal matrix-intraventricular hemorrhage was more often present in the intrauterine growth restricted neonates than in the control group.
