Other than trauma, rib fracture can occur spontaneously due to a severe cough or sneeze. In this study, patients with spontaneous rib fractures were analyzed according to age, sex, underlying pathology, treatment, and complications. ⋯ Spontaneous rib fracture due to severe cough may occur in patients with osteoporosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or bronchial asthma, receiving long-term steroid therapy. If these patients have severe chest pain, chest radiography should be performed to check for bone lesions.

Case ReportsMediastinal follicular dendritic cell sarcoma with paraneoplastic pemphigus.
Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma is a rare neoplasm of immune accessory cells. It occurs primarily in lymph nodes. Occurrences in the mediastinum are rarely reported. ⋯ Only a few cases of paraneoplastic pemphigus as the first presentation of follicular dendritic cell sarcoma have been reported. We report an unusual case of follicular dendritic cell sarcoma of the anterior mediastinum, presenting as paraneoplastic pemphigus in a 62-year-old man. Typical histological features confirmed the diagnosis of follicular dendritic cell sarcoma, and surgical resection was successfully performed.

Mitral valve repair for rheumatic mitral regurgitation: Mid-term results.
This retrospective study was undertaken to evaluate the midterm results of mitral valve repair for rheumatic mitral regurgitation, in term of survival rate and late valve failure. ⋯ Mitral valve repair for rheumatic mitral regurgitation is associated with a significant rate of valve failure and reoperation. However, it has a satisfactory survival rate and is a good alternative to valve replacement, especially for young patients, to avoid the life-long risks of a prosthetic valve.
