Comparative Study[Analysis of arrhythmias in immediate post-operative period of cardiovascular surgery].
Cardiac arrhythmias are one of the most frequent complications in the immediate post-operatory period of cardiac surgery with extracorporeal circulation, this occurring in between 35% and 50% of the patients subjected to this therapeutic intervention. Among the causal factors, electrolytic alterations, direct surgical aggression on the heart tissue and alterations secondary to ischemic cell damage that is produced in the myocardial during extracorporeal circulation are found. Due to the frequency of appearance of arrhythmias, we decided to study them and know them in depth. ⋯ This means 258 patients, the most frequent alterations during the post-operative period being right branch blockage (16%), atrial fibrillation (12%), ventricular tachycardy (7%), atrial ventricular block (4%), among other rhythm and conduction alterations. As conclusions, we stress that the most frequent alterations during the immediate post-operative period were branch blocks, arrhythmia being more prevalent than atrial fibrillation. A total of 85% of the patients undergoing valvular replacement and 89% of those operated on for coronary derivation plus valvular replacement had more arrhythmia episodes than the rest.

Review[Continuous lateral rotation or kinetic therapy: an update of knowledge].
Acute lung injury and, when extreme, acute respiratory distress syndrome, are thought to be expression of a diffuse and overwhelming inflammatory reaction of the pulmonary capillary membrane to a variety of causes. The ventilatory support is essential in this patients. ⋯ Lowly it's introducing in our setting. The follow article would respound the next questions: What's the KT? How must to make the KT? What recommendations have been offered by specialists from the complications? Which is it efectivity?

Comparative Study[Job stressors and satisfaction in the nursing staff of a critical unit].
The objectives of our study were: to identify the stressor agents of the nursing staff according to the sociodemographical and professional characteristics; to know if the frequency of exposure to job stressors is modified based on sociodemographical characteristics; and to know if there is a relationship between job stress and satisfaction. ⋯ 1) The most frequently identified job stressors in both categories are those related with patient suffering, death and job excess. 2) The Ns have a significantly greater exposure to job stressors. 3) Young age and insecurity in the job increase exposure to job stressors. 4) We have not found any relationship between the job stressors and satisfaction.

Comparative Study[Assessment of practice competence and scientific knowledge of ICU nurses in the tracheal suctioning].
Tracheal suctioning is essential to maintain permeability of the artificial airway. This procedure may be associated to risks for the patients. Thus, it is very important to know if the nurses perform it correctly and if the practice is based on scientific evidence. ⋯ When the total scores obtained were compared, both in practice and knowledge, with the years of experience in ICU, no statistically significant differences were found. It is concluded that the study nurses have scientific knowledge of the suctioning procedure that are better than their practice competence. Discrepancies between practice and knowledge were also found in several of the aspects evaluated, which orients towards the specific needs of training in this procedure.

[Pressure sores secondary to immobilization with cervical collar: a complication of acute cervical injury].
Cervical collars are essential in the treatment of patients with suspicion or verification of acute cervical spine injury (ACSI). One of the complications of these devices is the development of pressure scores (PS). This study aims to determine its incidence in our unit, the characteristics of patients with ACSI who suffer PS due to the collar and to describe aspects related with these injuries. ⋯ We conclude that a high index of suspicion of PS due to collar in patients with ACSI, elevated ISS, monitoring of ICP, mechanical ventilation and prolonged stays is required. The occipital zone requires special attention due to the seriousness of the injuries recorded. We suggest a specific multidisciplinary protocol for this problem.
