Observational Study[Validation of EMINA and EVARUCI scales for assessing the risk of developing pressure ulcers in critical patients].
To contribute to the validation of the EMINA and EVAUCI scales for assessing the risk of pressure ulcers in the critical patient and compare their predictive capacity in this same context. ⋯ No differences were found in predictive capacity of both scales. For sensitivities>90%the scales show to be insufficiently specific in the pressure ulcer risk detection in critical patients.

Observational Study[High-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy in critical patients. Prospective study].
To analyze the incidence of use of high-flow nasal cannula oxygen (HFNC) in intensive care and evaluate the procedure. ⋯ There is a low incidence of HFNC in the unit. The main indication is the moderate respiratory failure or the high need for oxygen supply. Almost all patients have improved with oxygen therapy, although it has not been possible to avoid intubation.

[Analysis of compliance of 2 prevention measures for ventilator-associated pneumonia (raised head of bed and cuff pressure control)].
To quantify the hours of mechanical ventilation in patients with head of bed elevation≥30°. Determining compliance of cuff measurement every 6h. ⋯ A third of the day patients are<30° without justification. Cuff pressure registration and percentage of therapeutic range are high. Control every 6h decreases the cuff with pressure<20cmH2O.

Observational Study[Pain assessment of tracheal suctioning on brain injury patients by pain behavioral indicator scale (ESCID)].
To assess pain response on patients with moderate to severe head injury before a common nursing procedure: tracheal suctioning. ⋯ Pain was assessed on 27 patients. 82% suffered from severe head trauma and 18% moderate. The average pain value during nursing procedure day 1 was 3, 18±2.6, day 3: 2, 59±2 and day 6: 3, 94±2.3. There was a significant increase in mean pain while performing suctioning during the three days of assessment (P<.05); however no significant differences between the average pain value on the three days of the assessment (P>.05) were shown. Data for the painless procedure were significantly different on day 6 (P<.05) CONCLUSION: During tracheal suctioning in patients with head injury in the first 6 days in the ICU, objective mild-moderate pain according to ESCID scale has been detected.

[Assessment of concordance between CAM-ICU scale and nursing delirium scale in postoperative period of ICU patients after cardiac surgery].
To evaluate concordance between the scale of delirium assessment CAM-ICU and the Nursing Delirium Screening Scale (NDSS) in postoperative cardiac surgery. ⋯ The concordance between the CAM-ICU scale and the NDSS in the postoperative cardiac surgery and during the stay in the Intensive Care Unit is low. Currently, the use of the CAM-ICU was recommended in this context, but it must not be replaced for the NDSS.
