Validation of A&D TM-2430 upper-arm blood pressure monitor for ambulatory blood pressure monitoring in children and adolescents, according to the British Hypertension Society protocol.
The A&D TM-2430 ambulatory blood pressure (BP) monitor has been validated in adults but not in a young population. We sought to validate the device monitoring in children and adolescents, according to the British Hypertension Society (BHS) protocol. ⋯ The A&D TM-2430 upper-arm BP monitor has fulfilled the required BHS standards and can be recommended for measuring ambulatory BP in children and adolescent populations.

ReviewOscillometric sphygmomanometers: a critical appraisal of current technology.
Blood pressure (BP), a key vital sign, monitors general health. Oscillometric devices are increasingly used for measurement, although their accuracy continues to be critically debated. A functional block diagram is used to review the components that affect accuracy. ⋯ The indirect nature of BP measurement poses particularly problems for ensuring accuracy. Critical assessment has done much to improve standards, but a solid theoretical understanding of the technique has not been formulated and further work is required.

Clinical TrialCan electronic sphygmomanometers be used for measurement of blood pressure at high altitudes?
Validated automated oscillometric sphygmomanometers have been recommended by clinical guidelines to replace mercury sphygmomanometers. No studies have been conducted to evaluate whether these validated devices designed for use at normal altitude are also suitable at high altitudes. ⋯ This first explorative study conducted at a high altitude demonstrated that the electronic sphygmomanometer can provide an accurate direct measurement of diastolic BP; however, a simple calibration is required for systolic BP.
