Serum Protein Electrophoresis and Immunofixation Electrophoresis Detection in Multiple Myeloma.
The objective of this study was to investigate the diagnostic significance of serum protein electrophoresis and immunofixation electrophoresis detection in diagnosis of multiple myeloma (MM). One hundred and five patients were investigated. ⋯ Immunofixation electrophoresis detection technique can be used for screening M protein in patients with atypical MM; and immunofixation electrophoresis detection technique can increase the diagnosis accuracy in patients with atypical MM. Key Words: Multiple myeloma (MM), Serum protein electrophoresis, Immunofixation electrophoresis, Monoclonal immunoglobulin.

Case ReportsAcute Urinary Retention: Should We Call it a Manifestation of Appendicitis?
Acute urinary retention (AUR) is a fairly common presentation in the elderly; but interesting to be noted in a healthy young individual as a manifestation of acute appendicitis. We present a case of a 32-year gentleman with decreased urine output with mild tenderness at the supra-pubic region; which was later on, shifted to the right iliac fossa. ⋯ This case also stresses on the repeated abdominal examinations to seek diagnostic clarity. Key Words: Appendicitis, Acute urinary retention, Repeat abdominal examination.

During the prevailing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the disease has started manifesting with some neurological symptoms. There have been reports on acute ischemic stroke, cerebral venous thrombosis, and intracerebral hemorrhage associated with COVID-19. The plausible mechanism that causes these ischemic processes is called "sepsis-induced coagulopathy." A 40-year male patient, who was hospitalised due to COVID-19 pneumonia, developed sudden-onset motor aphasia and right-sided hemiplegia. ⋯ It is presumed that ischemic events occur by an increase in coagulopathy secondary to inflammation. COVID-19 causes ischemic processes by inducing endothelial dysfunction and arterial or venous thrombosis. Key Words: COVID-19, Stroke, Coagulopathy, Ischemia; SARS-CoV-2.

Case ReportsSacral Stress Fracture due to Excess Weight Gain during Pregnancy while Self-Quarantining during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Most pregnancy-related sacral stress fractures occur after delivery. This case aims to emphasise that stress fractures can occur before delivery, and since excessive weight gain is a risk factor, pregnant women should avoid gaining excess weight, especially during quarantine. This patient, who gained 20 kgs during first pregnancy, started complaining of severe pain in the left sacral region in the 40th week of pregnancy, without any trauma. ⋯ Complaints of severe back pain during the last stage of pregnancy require a detailed physical examination. When localised sensitivity is detected in the sacral region during pregnancy, a diagnosis can be made using MRI, thereby avoiding radiation exposure. Key Words: Stress fractures, COVID-19, Sacrum, Pregnancy.

Thrombotic complications increase in novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. Most of these complications are associated with venous thromboembolism and pulmonary embolism; and arterial thrombosis is rare. Usually, arterial thrombosis affects peripheral arteries. ⋯ Supra-celiac aortic thrombosis and splenic infarction were detected. This case is reported to share experience regarding our treatment approach in the light of the literature data. Key Words: Arterial thrombosis, Acute aortic thrombosis, COVID-19.
