Frequency of Hypomagnesaemia following Total and Near-total Thyroidectomy and its relationship with Hypocalcaemia.
To determine the frequency of hypomagnesaemia in patients undergoing thyroidectomy and evaluate its relationship with postoperative hypocalcaemia. ⋯ Postoperatively hypocalcaemia was prevalent following thyroidectomy, while hypomagnesaemia was not common. Hypomagnesaemia and a fall in magnesium level after surgery was associated with hypocalcaemia; but not with symptomatic hypocalcaemia. Monitoring of magnesium levels in severe or persistent hypocalcaemia is recommended. While this study proves a relationship between calcium and magnesium, its clinical implication must be further studied. Key Words: Calcium, Magnesium, Postoperative, Hypocalcaemia, Hypomagnesaemia, Thyroidectomy.

Observational StudyP-wave Duration and Dispersion in Lone Obesity.
To assess P-wave duration and dispersion (PD) in morbidly obese young subjects who do not have co-associated atrial fibrillation (AF) risk factors, such as hypertension, diabetes, atrial enlargement and diastolic dysfunction. ⋯ Pmax and PD, which are potential electrocardiographic AF predictors, may increase in lone obese patients having no comorbidities. Key Words: Electrocardiography, Arrhythmia, P-wave duration, P-wave dispersion, Severe obesity.

Could C-Reactive Protein/Albumin Ratio be an Indicator of Activation in Axial Spondyloarthritis?
To evaluate the relationship of C-reactive protein (CRP)/albumin ratio (CAR), neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio with Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) in axial spondyloarthritis (Ax-SpA). ⋯ There is a significant correlation between CAR value and composite score such as BASDAI, which is commonly used to assess systemic inflammation in Ax-SpA. These methods are reliable, recognised by reimbursement institutions and include measurements that physicians can use practically in routine outpatient clinics. Key Words: Spondylitis, Ankylosing, HLA-B27 antigen, C-reactive protein/metabolism, Serum albumin/metabolism, Neutrophils, Lymphocytes, Platelet count.
