Intrathecal drug therapy using the Codman Model 3000 Constant Flow Implantable Infusion Pumps: experience with 17 cases.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the accuracy, reliability, safety, and efficacy of the Codman Model 3000 Constant Flow Implantable Infusion Pump for intrathecal baclofen delivery as a therapeutic option for the treatment of severe spasticity. The distinctive features of this pump include a raised, easily palpable septum, a safety valve protecting the bolus pathway, no programmer needed, and no battery to fail. ⋯ The Codman Model 3000 Constant Flow Implantable Infusion Pump is an accurate, reliable, and convenient option for patients needing intrathecal baclofen therapy, with complications similar to other available pumps.

Increased production of reactive oxygen species contributes to motor neuron death in a compression mouse model of spinal cord injury.
Experimental laboratory investigation of the role and pathways of reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated motor neuron cell death in a mouse model of compression spinal cord injury. ⋯ These data together provide direct evidence to demonstrate that the increased production of ROS is an early and likely causal event that contributes to the spinal cord motor neuron death following spinal cord injury. Thus, antioxidants/antioxidant enzyme intervention combined with other therapy may provide an effective approach to alleviate spinal cord injury-induced motor neuron damage and motor dysfunction.

Effectiveness of FK506 on lipid peroxidation in the spinal cord following experimental traumatic injury.
An in vivo study in Wistar albino rats with injured spinal cord. ⋯ Analysis of the results indicated that FK506 is a valuable pharmacological agent that could be used to decrease the LP and polymorphonuclear leucocyte infiltration and inflamatory reactions in the injured spinal cord tissue.

Case series of a consecutive sample. Retrospective audit. ⋯ ITB remained effective in the long term and patients were satisfied. Nevertheless, complications were frequent, involving mainly the catheters, which would require further technical improvements.
