Sexual activity and contraceptive use during social distancing and self-isolation in the COVID-19 pandemic.
The aims of the study were to investigate the effects of social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic on the use of hormonal contraceptives, their discontinuation and the risk of unplanned pregnancy. ⋯ Several non-cohabiting women using SARC had discontinued their contraceptive method during the pandemic but had continued to engage in sexual activity and had had an unplanned pregnancy. Clinicians should counsel women about what they should do in regard to contraception in the event of new, future social distancing measures.

Controlled Clinical TrialEffect of desogestrel 75 µg on headache frequency and intensity in women with migraine: a prospective controlled trial.
Objective: In contrast with combined hormonal contraception, progestin-only contraception is not associated with an increase in venous thromboembolism or stroke. Women with migraine are at increased risk of ischaemic stroke. Several studies have reported a reduction in migraine frequency and intensity with desogestrel 75 µg, a progestin-only pill. ⋯ No improvement was seen in the nonintervention group. Conclusion: These data demonstrate for the first time in a prospective controlled setting that daily use of the progestin desogestrel is associated with a decrease in migraine frequency, migraine intensity and pain medication use in women with migraine, with and without aura, who had previously been experiencing at least three days of migraine per month. Trial registration: The study is registered in the University of Zürich database ( www.research-projects.uzh.ch/unizh.htm ).

Observational StudyPerfect- and typical-use effectiveness of the Dot fertility app over 13 cycles: results from a prospective contraceptive effectiveness trial.
Dynamic Optimal Timing (Dot) is a smartphone application (app) that estimates the menstrual cycle fertile window based on the user's menstrual period start dates. Dot uses machine learning to adapt to cycles over time and informs users of 'low' and 'high' fertility days. We investigated Dot's effectiveness, calculating perfect- and typical-use failure rates. ⋯ Dot's effectiveness is within the range of other user-initiated contraceptive methods.
