Body Composition Profile of Children and Adolescent Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
Children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) generally show an alteration in their fat and soft tissue mass contents. These alterations may influence disease severity and increase the risk of post-operative complications. ⋯ Saudi Arabian children with IBD showed comparable body composition profiles to adult patients with IBD. Biological therapy was associated with a decreased incidence of both obesity and myopenia, and female gender was found to predict myopenia.

Do Urinary Mast Cell Mediators Predict Immune Response to BCG in Patients with Primary High-Grade Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer?
Mast cells play a critical role in cancer-associated immunity. We aimed to determine the predictive value of urinary mast cell mediators in patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) treated with Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) immunotherapy. ⋯ Our study is the first to identify the changes in mast cell mediators with the onset of immunotherapy and in presence of bladder cancer. However, these mediators cannot predict patients' response to immunotherapy.

Which factors can influence the number of forced expiratory maneuvers on spirometry in schoolchildren?
Spirometry is of great value for understanding respiratory function and management of lung diseases. Adaptations in the exam were made to meet paediatric population since the forced expiratory manoeuvres (FEM) present in the exam require effort and cooperation; therefore, its use should be reconsidered. ⋯ Age and school performance influenced the number of FEM required for a successful spirometry in schoolchildren.

Current factors affecting the risk of omphalitis in newborns: A prospective case-control study.
We aimed to determine the current factors affecting the development of omphalitis in our region. ⋯ Results suggested that community-based interventions promoting the improvement of neonatal care should emphasise simple and low-cost interventions such as hand washing habit of mothers, caring for the umbilical cord, and using cotton clothes for babies. This study also confirms the safety of dry cord care at the time of birth and afterwards. However, broadscale multicentric studies are needed to protect against omphalitis.

Prevalence/incidence of atrial fibrillation based on integrated medical/pharmacy claims, and association with co-morbidity profiles/multi-morbidity in a large US adult cohort.
Identification of published data on prevalent/incidence of atrial fibrillation/flutter (AF) often relies on inpatient/outpatient claims, without consideration to other types of healthcare services and pharmacy claims. Accurate, population-level data that can enable the ongoing monitoring of AF epidemiology, quality of care at affordable cost, and complications are needed. We hypothesised that prevalent/incidence data would vary via the use of integrated medical/pharmacy claims, and associated comorbidities would vary accordingly. ⋯ Continued reliance only on outpatient and inpatient claims greatly underestimates AF prevalence and incidence in the general population by over 100%. Multi-morbidity is common amongst AF patients, affecting approximately 1 in 10 patients. AF patients with four or more co-morbidities captured 20%-40% of the AF cohorts depending on age groups and prevalent or incident cases.
