Evaluation of the Effect of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Smoking Addiction Levels.
This study aims to evaluate the changes in smoking addiction levels during the on-going Covid-19 pandemic. ⋯ The smoking addiction level may change based on various factors including behavioural changes. While increases in smoking addiction during the pandemic can be observed caused by behavioural changes and anxieties that may arise because of the pandemic, a decrease in addiction levels and even smoking cessation can also be observed during these times because of the more progressive course of Covid-19 in smokers. Health institutions should therefore take advantage of this period and focus more efforts on the cessation of smoking and other substance abuse issues.

ReviewRationale For the Use of Metformin and Exercise to Counteract Statin-associated Side Effects.
Statins are the most widely prescribed drugs for lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and reducing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. They are usually well-tolerated, but have two main safety concerns: statin-associated muscle symptoms (SAMS) and new-onset type 2 diabetes (NOD). ⋯ This combination appears attractive both from a clinical and an economical viewpoint, since all three therapies are highly cost-effective and their combination could result in diabetes and cardiovascular disease prevention.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe Effects of Flaxseed Supplementation on Gene Expression and Inflammation in Ulcerative Colitis Patients: an open-labeled randomized controlled trial.
Inflammatory bowel disease, a chronic inflammatory disorder of the intestinal mucosa, is a clinical presentation of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (UC). This study investigated the effect of grounded flaxseed (GF) and flaxseed oil (FO) on clinical biomarkers, quality of life and diseases activity in patients with UC. This research was conducted among 90 patients with UC for 12 weeks using an open-labelled randomised controlled trial design. ⋯ In conclusion, grounded flaxseed and FO attenuated systemic inflammation and improved disease severity in UC patients.

Association of gonadal hormones and sex hormone binding globulin with risk of diabetes: a cohort study in middle-aged and elderly males.
Late-onset hypogonadism in men is related to the development of diabetes. The association of gonadal hormones, sex hormone binding globulin with diabetes has been studied in various studies. However, there is no cohort study on the relationship between gonadal hormone, sex hormone binding globulin and diabetes in Chinese. We aimed to provide an insight into the possible association in middle-aged and elderly Chinese males. ⋯ Compared with gonadal hormones, a lower level of SHBG is independently associated with the risk of diabetes in middle-aged and elderly Chinese males.
