To evaluate the predicting factors for non-sentinel lymph node (SLN) metastases in T1-2 invasive breast cancer with 1-2 metastatic SLN that fully matched the ACOSOG Z0011 criteria. Also, to develop a scoring system to predict the risk of non-SLN metastasis and to discriminate the low-risk patients for omission of the axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) in this population. ⋯ The present Ondokuz Mayis model with an AUC of 0.88 showed excellent discrimination capacity to distinguish patients at low risk for positive non-SLN from high risk patients and could help spare ALND in an important portion of patients.

Aretaeus of Cappadocia (ca 1st-3rd century AD): views on hepatic cancer.
Aretaeus lived in an era when cancer was known to be a fatal disease. He had understood both liver's capacity to regenerate, and its vital role for the body's homeostasis, and proposed the treatment to confront hepatic cancer. Although human's anatomy was well studied, especially in the Alexandrian School, and a plethora of surgical instruments and techniques were available, he had suggested a more holistic-palliative approach for hepatic cancer by applying a suitable dietetic regime, pain killers and psychological support.

Survival after curative resection of pancreatic, ampullary and lower common bile duct cancer remains very poor. The aim of this study was to assess important prognostic factors in patients with resectable pancreatic cancer. ⋯ Surgical resection margins, tumor grade, T stage, perineural invasion, vascular invasion, age >65 and adjuvant chemotherapy are the strongest predictors of survival after surgical resection of pancreatic, ampullary and lower common bile duct cancer. In this series, lymph node ratio did not impact survival.

Eribulin is a non-taxane microtubule inhibitor, which can be used after anthracycline and taxane treatment in patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC). The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of eribulin monotherapy in heavily pretreated MBC patients. ⋯ Eribulin monotherapy is an effective and safe regimen for MBC patients. Its low toxicity profile compared to other intravenous cytotoxic agents and the ease in its intravenous administration make this agent a preferable option for both physicians and patients.

The most critical parameter in the evaluation of the effectiveness of minimally invasive esophagectomy for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is long-term outcome. In this study, patients in whom more than 5 years had elapsed since they had undergone minimally invasive esophagectomy for esophageal SCC were identified, and the 5-year overall survival (OS) rate and 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) rate were evaluated as the long-term outcomes. ⋯ Minimally invasive esophagectomy for the treatment of esophageal SCC is as feasible and safe as open esophagectomy in terms of both very long- and short-term outcomes.
