Meta Analysis Comparative Study
Comparative efficacy and safety of first-line treatments for advanced non-small cell lung cancer with immune checkpoint inhibitors: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the predominant type of lung cancer, and most clinically curable patients are diagnosed with locally advanced disease. Although the efficacy of standard platinum-based chemotherapy doublets is relatively limited. The effect of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) remains controversial, and its role in the first-line treatment of advanced NSCLC is obscure. Thus, we carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the efficacy and safety of ICIs for advanced NSCLC. ⋯ ICIs are overall better tolerated than chemotherapy. Our results provide further evidence supporting the favorable risk/benefit ratio for ICIs.

Meta Analysis
Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy versus lobectomy for stage I non-small cell lung cancer: A systematic review.
There is debate regarding the use of stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) or surgery for patients with early stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This meta-analysis compared the clinical efficacy of SABR and lobectomy in stage I NSCLC patients. ⋯ Meta-analyses of current evidence suggested that lobectomy provides better long-term survival outcomes for stage I NSCLC patients.

Lung cancer is currently the leading cause of cancer-related death in China and western countries for both men and women. Overall, the five-year survival rate of lung cancer is approximately 15%, whereas the five-year survival for patients with surgically resected early-stage disease is 60-80%. Screening is conceptually a good strategy for reducing the mortality rate of lung cancer. ⋯ More results from European randomized controlled trials are expected in the next few years. Recently, a number of lung cancer screening studies using LDCT have been initiated in China. This article briefly summarizes the results of the current and previous lung cancer screening trials worldwide, and focuses on the current status of LDCT lung cancer screening in China.

The treatment status of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) in Mainland China has never been reported; therefore, this study is the first multicenter survey investigating the status of epidemiology and treatment options of SCLC in Mainland China. ⋯ The treatment options indicated in our study are in accordance with the international clinical guidelines, which is valuable for the improvement of future guidelines, health care standard, and even the better distribution of health care resources in China.

There is no consensus on the best management of symptomatic malignant pleural effusion. Drainage with a small bore pleural catheter is preferred over a wide bore catheter or recurrent pleural aspiration in patients with symptomatic malignant pleural effusion, for equivalent efficacy and patient comfort. If resources allow, chemical pleurodesis under thoracoscopy, with talc as sclerosant, is preferred for fully expanded lung over bedside chemical pleurodesis in fit patients. ⋯ Pleural effusion in the entrapped lung scenario is a problematic situation. Pleuroperitoneal shunting or decortication procedures are out of favor as they are more invasive and present more complications. Management algorithm is recommended based on the current data.
