The iliac pillar - Definition of an osseous fixation pathway for internal and external fixation.
Increasing numbers of unstable pelvic ring fractures, due to the ongoing demographic change and improvements in the rescue of high-energy traumatic events, are challenging trauma and orthopedic surgeons. While initial installation of an external fixation device is often necessary, placement of iliac crest pins can be difficult due to the complex osteology of the ilium. ⋯ Anatomical descriptive study.

A new internal fixation technique for acetabular fractures involving the quadrilateral plate.
The treatment of acetabular fracture involving the quadrilateral plate is a technical challenge, and the optimal management of the fracture remains controversial. We have designed a new implant (named acetabular fracture reduction internal fixator, AFRIF) for acetabular fractures involving the quadrilateral plate. This use of this new device was not investigated therefore we conducted a retrospective study aiming to determine whether the AFRIF can achieve satisfactory clinical and radiological outcomes for quadrilateral plate fracture. ⋯ IV, retrospective study.

Comparing the outcomes of the induced membrane technique between the tibia and femur: Retrospective single-center study of 33 patients.
Bone defects are challenging to treat surgically. The primary objective of our study was to compare the union rate and time to union between the tibia and femur when using the induced membrane technique. The secondary objective was to document how failures were managed. ⋯ IV, retrospective study.
