Comparative StudyTranexamic acid reduces blood loss and financial cost in primary total hip and knee replacement surgery.
Blood conservation strategies have been developed to diminish blood transfusion requirements in patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery. Tranexamic acid (TA) is an inexpensive antifibrinolytic agent that is little used in orthopaedic surgery due to the absence of standardised optimal administration regimens. ⋯ IV. Retrospective case-control.

Comparative StudyReliability of a new method for lower-extremity measurements based on stereoradiographic three-dimensional reconstruction.
Several clinical and radiological techniques have been described to assess lower limb length and angle measurements. None of them has yet met the ideal criteria for a reliable, reproducible, safe, and inexpensive system. In this context, a new biplanar X-ray system (EOS™, EOS imaging, Paris, France) makes it possible to obtain a 3D reconstruction of the lower extremities from two 2D orthogonal radiographic images, with associated calculation of 3D measurements. The reliability of this technique has never been documented on adults. ⋯ Level III: diagnostic prospective study on consecutive patients.

Comparative StudyRehabilitation implications during the development of the Norwich Enhanced Recovery Programme (NERP) for patients following total knee and total hip arthroplasty.
To report the analysis of the initial rehabilitation results of the Norwich Enhanced Recovery Programme (NERP), regime with increased post-operative physiotherapy input following total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) performed under spinal anaesthetic with wound catheter infiltration. ⋯ Level IV - retrospective series.

Comparative StudyIs preoperative embolization a prerequisite for spinal metastases surgical management?
Preoperative embolization decreases the intraoperative risk of hemorrhage in spinal decompression surgery of hypervascular metastases such as renal cell carcinoma. There is no consensus concerning embolization in other metastases. The purpose of this study was to compare the intraoperative amount of blood loss in embolized versus non-embolized patients, seeking for differences depending on the primary tumor and the extent of surgery. ⋯ Level IV, retrospective study.

Comparative StudyGeometrical analysis results of 42 resurfacing shoulder prostheses: A CT scan study.
Shoulder resurfacing arthroplasty was introduced in Scandinavia in the early 1980s then developed by SA Copeland. ⋯ Level IV, retrospective study.
