Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) provide information on appropriate management protocols in patients with cerebrovascular diseases. Despite growing evidence of race and ethnicity being independent predictors of outcomes, recent literature has drawn attention to inadequate reporting of these demographic profiles across RCTs. To our knowledge, the adherence to reporting race and/or ethnicity in cerebrovascular RCTs remains undescribed. Our study describes trends in the reporting of race and/or ethnicity across cerebrovascular RCTs. ⋯ Sixty-five percent of prominent cerebrovascular RCTs lack adequate reporting of participant race/ethnicity. Reasons for inadequate reporting of these variables remain unclear and warrant additional investigation.

Despite the importance of adverse drug reactions (ADRs), little is known about their role in perioperative neurosurgery. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of ADRs in perioperative neurosurgery and clarify the characteristics, severity, preventability, and risk factors of ADRs. ⋯ The frequency of suspected and severe ADRs was higher than expected. Polypharmacy and older age were independent risk factors for ADRs in perioperative neurosurgery. To decrease ADRs during perioperative neurosurgery, polypharmacy must be discouraged, especially among older adult patients.

Computed tomography angiography (CTA) is a well-established diagnostic modality for carotid stenosis. However, false-positive CTA results may expose patients to unnecessary procedural complications in cases where surgical intervention is not warranted. We aim to assess the correlation of CTA to digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in carotid stenosis and characterize patients who were referred for intervention based on CTA and did not require it based on DSA. ⋯ In patients with stenosis found on CTA, over 88% also had stenosis on DSA, with this positive predictive value in line with previous studies. The percent-stenosis value from CTA and DSA was weakly correlated but does not affect the overall clinical judgement of stenosis. Severe calcification found on CTA may potentially indicate nonstenosis on DSA.

Within the field of pediatric neurosurgery, insurance status has been shown to be associated with surgical delay, longer time to referral, and longer hospitalization in epilepsy treatment, myelomeningocele repair, and spasticity surgery.1,2 The aim of this study was to investigate the association of insurance status with inpatient adverse events (AEs), length of stay (LOS), and costs for newborns diagnosed with intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH). ⋯ Demographic characteristics, mean LOS, and mean total cost differed significantly between Medicaid and PI patients, indicating potential disparities based on insurance status. However, insurance status was not independently associated with increased healthcare utilization, necessitating further research in this area of study.

Comparison of the Transcranial Approach and Transsphenoidal Approach Based on the Anatomical Location of Origin in Pediatric Craniopharyngiomas.
Various clinical classifications of craniopharyngiomas (CRPs) have been proposed to suggest optimal surgical planning. We aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of pediatric CRPs and the clinical significance of anatomical classification in relation to the diaphragm sellae. ⋯ Over time, with the adoption of EEA at our institute, the impact of anatomical classification on the surgical approach has decreased. Nevertheless, an individualized surgical approach should be employed to improve long-term outcomes and minimize complications for pediatric CRPs.
