A lack of brain expansion is considered a risk factor for recurrence after evacuation of a chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH). To the best of our knowledge, no studies have reported on objective measurement of brain expansion after evacuation of a CSDH. ⋯ Evacuation of a CSDH through 2 burr holes, along with copious irrigation and bed rest for 3 days, resulted in a very low recurrence rate without the use of a drain. A lack of brain expansion might be a predictor of recurrence. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to quantitatively measure the depth of the brain at surgery in patients undergoing surgery for CSDH.

Measuring spinal alignment with radiological parameters is essential in patients with spinal conditions likely to be treated surgically. These evaluations are not usually included in the radiological report. As a result, spinal surgeons commonly perform the measurement, which is time-consuming and subject to errors. We aim to develop a fully automated artificial intelligence (AI) tool to assist in measuring alignment parameters in whole-spine lateral radiograph (WSL X-rays). ⋯ Vertebrai's measurements can accurately detect alignment parameters, making it a promising tool for measuring GSP automatically.

The Low-Profile Visualized Intraluminal Support (LVIS) device has been frequently used as an intracranial stent for treating intracranial aneurysms. However, the feasibility and efficacy of LVIS devices in Y-stent-assisted coiling (Y-SAC) have remained contentious. This study aimed to evaluate long-term angiographic and clinical outcomes of Y-SAC using LVIS devices. ⋯ Y-SAC using the LVIS device for intracranial bifurcation aneurysms is a feasible and relatively safe procedure with favorable long-term angiographic and clinical outcomes.

There are cases of superficial siderosis (SS) with spinal ventral fluid-filled collection in the spinal canal. In our previous study, the balanced steady-state free precession sequence magnetic resonance imaging is useful in identifying the location of dural defects. However, because of its narrow scan area and long scan time, it cannot easily detect the defect location in some patients with small dural defect. In this study, we applied 4-dimensional (4D) dynamic computed tomography (CT) imaging, including time-axis imaging, to myelography using the latest CT imaging equipment, which can perform short-time continuous imaging, to identify the dural defect site. ⋯ The 4D dynamic CT myelography can be used to reliably identify the location of spinal fluid leakage. In SS cases, dural defects could be visualized in an average of 19 seconds.

Neurosurgery in Saudi Arabia: Navigating Through Future Pathways and Students' Perspectives.
Neurosurgery is a surgical discipline that demands comprehensive knowledge in other specialties. It is regarded as one of the most competitive specialties. However, there is a new trend toward considering life-style friendly specialties. Therefore, this study aims to assess the neurosurgery perception and identify potential factors influencing such attitudes. ⋯ This study emphasizes how gender and academic year affect choosing neurosurgery as a career but notes limitations like self-reporting bias and a single-institution scope, which may affect generalizability. Future research might consider national summer training programs to engage more students in neurosurgery.
