As the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic spread to the United States in 2020, there was an impetus toward postponing or ceasing nonurgent transsphenoidal pituitary surgeries to prevent the spread of the virus. Some centers encouraged transcranial approaches for patients with declining neurologic function. However, no large-scale data exist evaluating the effects that this situation had on national pituitary practice patterns. ⋯ In 2020, transsphenoidal surgery remained the preferred approach for pituitary tumor resection despite initial recommendations against the approach to prevent COVID-19 spread. Pituitary surgeries had a higher risk of periprocedural complications despite accounting for preoperative comorbidities, COVID-19 infection status, and surgical approach, suggesting that an overwhelmed hospital system can negatively influence surgical outcomes in noninfected patients.

To propose a novel surgical strategy-thoracic anterior controllable antedisplacement fusion (TACAF) to treat multilevel thoracic ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (mT-OPLL), and investigate its safety and efficacy. ⋯ This strategy provides a novel solution for the treatment of mT-OPLL with favorable recovery of neurological function, the tension of spinal cord, and fewer complications.

This prospective study assesses the acceptance and usefulness of augmented 360° virtual reality (VR) videos for early student education and preparation in the field of neurosurgery. ⋯ This study demonstrated the high acceptance of augmented 360° VR videos as a valuable tool for early student education in neurosurgery. While hands-on training remains indispensable, these videos promote conceptual knowledge, ignite interest in neurosurgery, and provide a much-needed orientation within the operating room. The incorporation of detailed explanations throughout the surgeries with augmentation using superimposed elements, offers distinct advantages over simply observing live surgeries.

The prognosis for patients with cancer with brain metastasis (BM) requiring surgical removal is quite limited. Preoperative prognostic factors can provide meaningful information to surgeons, oncologists, and patients. This study evaluated the preoperative blood counts in patients with BM who were treated with surgical removal. ⋯ Simple, less expensive, routinely ordered preoperative blood count assessments, such as the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-lymphocyte ratio, lymphocyte-monocyte ratio, systemic immune-inflammation index, systemic inflammation response index, and prognostic nutritional index, can predict the overall survival of patients treated with surgical removal for BM.

To construct an optimal prognostic model to assess the prognosis of patients with diffuse glioma. ⋯ Among the three models, the F-model (radiomics combined with clinical factors) had optimal predictive efficacy and could more accurately assess the prognosis of diffuse glioma. The "Prognosis Calculator for Diffuse Glioma" constructed based on this model could assist clinicians in more easily and accurately assessing the prognosis of patients with diffuse glioma, thus enabling them to make more reasonable treatment strategies.
