Risk factors of cage subsidence following oblique lumbar interbody fusion: a meta-analysis and systematic review.
The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the risk factors for cage subsidence (CS) after oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF). ⋯ Older age, osteoporosis, endplate injury, and overdistraction of the intervertebral space may increase the risk of CS after OLIF. Although the incidence rate of CS is low, implementing effective preventions is a priority for clinicians based on these risk factors.

Clinical Considerations and Outcomes for Spine Surgery Patients with a History of Transplant: A Systematic Scoping Review.
The objective of this study was to investigate the perioperative management and outcomes of patients with a prior history of successful transplantation undergoing spine surgery. ⋯ This is the first systematic scoping review examining the population of transplant patients with subsequent unrelated spine surgery. There is significant heterogeneity in the outcomes of post-transplant spine surgery patients. Given the inherent complexity of managing this group and elevated mortality and complications compared to the general spine surgery population, further investigation into their clinical care is warranted.

Microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia caused by vascular compression on the trigeminal sensory nucleus and descending trigeminal tract.
Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is characterized by paroxysmal episodes of severe shocklike orofacial pain typically resulting from arterial compression on the trigeminal root entry zone. However, neurovascular conflict in more proximal parts of the trigeminal pathway within the pons is extremely rare. ⋯ Neurovascular compression in the trigeminal tract and nucleus is a rare but potential cause of TN. A thorough investigation of the trigeminal pathway should be considered during preoperative evaluation and intraoperative inspection, particularly if no clear offending vessel is identified.

This study investigates the impact of general anesthesia (GA) versus conscious sedation/local anesthesia (CS/LA) on the outcome of patients with minor stroke and isolated M2 occlusion undergoing immediate mechanical thrombectomy (iMT). ⋯ In patients with minor stroke and isolated M2 occlusion undergoing iMT, the type of anesthesia does not affect clinical outcome or the rate of procedural-related complications. Our results agree with recent data showing no benefit of one specific anesthesiologic procedure over the other and confirm their generalizability also to patients with minor baseline symptoms.

We sought to assess the accuracy of a novel parameter proportional to the rod shear stress (RSS) in identifying patients at risk of rod fracture (RF) after surgery for correction of adult spinal deformity. ⋯ The RSS is calculated using easily obtainable information and shows potential as a tool for predicting patient-specific risk of RF after spinal fusion. The number of instrumented levels also correlates strongly with the occurrence of RFs and is not significantly less accurate than the RSS. A larger sample size and prospective validation would be useful in determining with greater confidence which parameter is superior for predicting RFs after spinal fusion.
