Disappearance of a Ruptured Distal Flow-Related Aneurysm after Arteriovenous Malformation Nidal Embolization.
Aneurysms associated with arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are well represented in the literature. Their exact etiology is poorly understood, but likely global hemodynamic changes coupled with vascular wall pathology play into their formation. ⋯ We report the case of an AVM-associated aneurysm causing intraventricular hemorrhage that disappeared after embolization of unrelated, distal feeding pedicles to the nidus, at a site distant from the aneurysm. We also review the literature with regards to these so-called "disappearing aneurysms" in the context of AVMs and other vascular pathologies.

Sellar toxoplasmosis is associated with congenital infections or immunodeficiency. The finding of Toxoplasma bradycysts in a pituitary adenoma is very unusual. ⋯ Sellar toxoplasmosis in conjunction with pituitary adenoma is extremely rare. Nonfunctioning lesions should be suspected in cases of sellar masses and moderate hyperprolactinemia.

To assess the clinical significance of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) free fatty acid (FFA) levels in Chinese patients with acute ischemic stroke. ⋯ CSF FFA levels at the time of admission were associated with stroke severity and lesion volumes. In addition, CE stroke can be distinguished from other stroke etiologies by measuring CSF FFA levels very early.

We report an uncommon case of a surgical resection of a fourth ventricle tumor in an adult that proved to be a schwannoma. ⋯ This case report intends to reveal the eighth case of a fourth ventricle schwannoma since 1957. Schwannomas of the fourth ventricle are infrequent but should be accounted in the differential diagnosis of space-occupying lesions in this location. Gross total resection might be the definite treatment of these tumors if deemed possible.

The dura mater can be easily biopsied during most cranial neurosurgical operations. We describe a protocol that allows for robust generation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and neural progenitors from acutely harvested dura mater. ⋯ IPSCs and neural progenitor cells can be efficiently derived from the dura of patients who need to undergo cranial neurosurgical operations. IPSCs were obtained with a nonintegrating virus and exhibited a normal karyotype, making them candidates for future autotransplantation after targeted differentiation to treat functional deficits.
