Association of thyroid functional disease with mortality in a national cohort of incident hemodialysis patients.
Hypothyroidism is a common condition that disproportionately affects hemodialysis patients. In the general population, hypothyroidism is associated with higher mortality, particularly in populations with underlying cardiovascular risk. Despite their heightened cardiovascular mortality, the impact of hypothyroidism on the survival of hemodialysis patients remains uncertain. ⋯ Hypothyroidism as well as upper-normal TSH levels are associated with higher mortality in hemodialysis patients. Further studies are needed to determine whether restoration of TSH to low-normal levels with thyroid hormone replacement therapy ameliorates adverse outcomes in hemodialysis patients.

Male reproductive disorders, diseases, and costs of exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals in the European Union.
Increasing evidence suggests that endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) contribute to male reproductive diseases and disorders. ⋯ EDCs may contribute substantially to male reproductive disorders and diseases, with nearly €15 billion annual associated costs in the EU. These estimates represent only a few EDCs for which there were sufficient epidemiological studies and those with the highest probability of causation. These public health costs should be considered as the EU contemplates regulatory action on EDCs.

Observational StudyPheochromocytoma and paraganglioma in cyanotic congenital heart disease.
Aberrant cellular oxygen sensing is a leading theory for development of pheochromocytoma (PHEO) and paraganglioma (PGL). ⋯ There is a strong link between CCHD and PHEO-PGL. Whether these rare diseases coassociate due to hypoxic stress, common genetic or developmental factors, or some combination requires further investigation.

Neurobehavioral deficits, diseases, and associated costs of exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals in the European Union.
Epidemiological studies and animal models demonstrate that endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) contribute to cognitive deficits and neurodevelopmental disabilities. ⋯ EDC exposures in Europe contribute substantially to neurobehavioral deficits and disease, with a high probability of >€150 billion costs/year. These results emphasize the advantages of controlling EDC exposure.

MEN1 disease occurring before 21 years old: a 160-patient cohort study from the Groupe d'étude des Tumeurs Endocrines.
Multiple endocrine neoplasia Type-1 (MEN1) in young patients is only described by case reports. ⋯ Various MEN1 lesions occurred frequently before 21 years old, but mainly after 10 years of age. Rare, aggressive tumors may develop at any age. Hyperparathyroidism was the most frequently encountered lesion but was not always the first biological or clinical abnormality to appear during the course of MEN1.
