Case ReportsSerum alpha-fetoprotein screening for hepatoblastoma in children with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome or isolated hemihyperplasia.
An elevated risk of hepatoblastoma for children with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome or isolated hemihyperplasia is well established. We describe five children with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome or isolated hemihyperplasia for whom serial serum alpha-fetoprotein screening, usually in combination with abdominal ultrasound, led to early detection of hepatoblastoma.

Acute chylothorax in children: selective retention of memory T cells and natural killer cells.
To assess for immunodeficiency in patients with hypogammaglobulinemia in the setting of draining acute chylothorax. ⋯ Draining chylothorax resulted in IgG and lymphocyte depletion with preferential retention of memory T cells and natural killer cells in the circulation. Overall, protective-specific antibody levels and T cell function were maintained. IVIG administration did not lead to discernible protection from infectious complications in this small group of patients.
