Randomized Controlled TrialCan montelukast shorten prednisolone therapy in children with mild to moderate acute asthma? A randomized controlled trial.
To examine whether outpatient post-stabilization therapy with montelukast produces more treatment failures than prednisolone. ⋯ Montelukast does not represent an adequate alternative to corticosteroids after outpatient stabilization in mild to moderate acute asthma. This population should receive oral corticosteroids after discharge.

Permanent pediatric diplomate awareness of and perspectives on maintenance of certification.
Since diplomates of the American Board of Pediatrics with permanent certificates will not be required to participate in the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program, we determined the perceptions of permanent certificate holders about MOC and their degree of interest in participation. ⋯ A wide range of attitudes and perceptions about MOC exists among holders of permanent certificates. Concerns about the importance of MOC to parents and the usefulness of MOC participation in improving quality of care will need to be addressed.

Case ReportsEffective desensitization to imiglucerase in a patient with type I Gaucher disease.
We describe a child who had anaphylactic hypersensitivity to imiglucerase therapy for Gaucher disease. Treatment was stopped and symptoms returned. After immune desensitization to imiglucerase using a rush protocol, the patient was able to resume treatment and has not had further hypersensitivity complications to date.
