Impact of aortic valve effective height following valve-sparing root replacement on postoperative insufficiency and reoperation.
This study evaluated the impact of anatomic aortic root parameters during valve-sparing root replacement on the probability of postoperative aortic insufficiency and freedom from aortic valve reoperation. ⋯ Measures to increase effective height during valve-sparing root replacement may decrease the risk of more than mild postoperative aortic insufficiency after repair and the need for aortic valve reoperation.

Fate of moderate aortic regurgitation after cardiac surgery.
To determine the prevalence of concomitant aortic regurgitation (AR) in cardiac surgery and the outcomes of treatment options. ⋯ Aortic valve surgery in select patients with concomitant moderate AR can be added with minimal added risk, but untreated AR does not influence long-term survival after cardiac surgery and rarely required late intervention.

Status of women in congenital heart surgery: Results from a national survey.
Gender disparity in cardiothoracic surgery, but not specifically in congenital heart surgery, has been a growing focus. The aim of this study was to describe the experiences related to gender for women in this field. ⋯ This survey highlights many areas (discouragement due to gender, sexual harassment, and gender disparities in pay and leadership opportunities) that women may perceive as barriers to a successful career in congenital heart surgery. There is an increasing call to action to mitigate these hurdles for women, both to enter and succeed. It is encouraging that the women surveyed would repeat their career choice and are actively mentoring other women to join this field.

Contemporary outcomes of the double switch operation for congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries.
To determine the contemporary outcomes of the double switch operation (DSO) (ie, Mustard or Senning + arterial switch). ⋯ The outcomes of the DSO are promising. Earlier age at operation might favor better outcomes. Progressive neoaortic regurgitation and reinterventions on the neo-aortic valve are anticipated problems.
