Multicenter StudyCardiac Surgery-Associated Acute Kidney Injury in Neonates Undergoing the Norwood Operation: Retrospective Analysis of the Multicenter Neonatal and Pediatric Heart and Renal Outcomes Network Dataset, 2015-2018.
Cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CS-AKI) is associated with adverse outcomes. Single-center studies suggest that the prevalence of CS-AKI is high after the Norwood procedure, or stage 1 palliation (S1P), but multicenter data are lacking. ⋯ KDIGO-defined CS-AKI occurred frequently and early postoperatively in this 2015-2018 multicenter PC 4 /NEPHRON cohort of neonates after S1P. We failed to identify associations between resource utilization and CS-AKI, but there was an association between severe CS-AKI and greater odds of mortality in this high-risk cohort. Improving the precision for defining clinically relevant neonatal CS-AKI remains a priority.

Retrospective Validation of a Computerized Physiologic Equation to Predict Minute Ventilation Needs in Critically Ill Children.
Mechanical ventilation (MV) is pervasive among critically ill children. We sought to validate a computerized physiologic equation to predict minute ventilation requirements in children and test its performance against clinician actions in an in silico trial. ⋯ A computerized equation to predict minute ventilation requirements outperformed clinicians' ventilator adjustments in 75% of ABGs from critically ill children in this retrospective analysis. Prospective validation studies are needed.

Organ Donation in Canadian PICUs: A Cross-Sectional Survey, 2021-2022.
To understand contemporary pediatric organ donation programs in Canadian PICUs, including: policies and practices, data collection and reporting, and system and process barriers. ⋯ Although all Canadian PICUs support donation after DNC donation, and most support donation after DCC, variability exists in the identification, referral, and approach of potential donors. There is a notable lack of family involvement in pediatric donation programs. There are many opportunities for standardization of PICU donation programs which may result in improved rates of pediatric organ donation in Canada.

Measuring Physical Function in the PICU: Development and Testing of a Children's Version (Age 2-18 yr) of the Chelsea Critical Care Physical Assessment Tool.
To adapt and develop a reliable and easily administered outcome measure of physical and respiratory function in critically ill children in the PICU. ⋯ The cCPAx tool content that was developed using Delphi methodology provided a feasible and clinically relevant tool for use in assessing physical morbidity in PICU patients 2-18 years old. Overall, the cCPAx scores were low, demonstrating low levels of physical function and high levels of immobility during PICU care.
