Percutaneous mastoid electrical stimulator improves Poststroke depression and cognitive function in patients with Ischaemic stroke: a prospective, randomized, double-blind, and sham-controlled study.
Poststroke depression can lead to functional dependence, cognitive impairment and reduced quality of life. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a percutaneous mastoid electrical stimulator (PMES) plus antidepressants on poststroke depression and cognitive function. ⋯ These findings demonstrate that PMES adjunctive to antidepressant therapy is effective in reducing depression, achieving remission in the short term, and improving cognition.

To our knowledge, the exposed nerve roots in thoracic spine are usually sacrificed to facilitate osteotomy during posterior vertebral column resection (PVCR) for severe spinal deformity. Currently we report a case with severe spine deformity in which intraoperative neurological monitoring (IOM) loss after interrupting T8 nerve root finally led to spinal cord injury during PVCR surgery. ⋯ Interrupting the thoracic spine nerve root is danger to trigger the spinal cord injury during PVCR procedure of severe CKS. That probably because the increasing tension of contralateral anterior horn area of spinal cord via the nerve root pulling.

Notalgia paresthetica: clinical features, radiological evaluation, and a novel therapeutic option.
Notalgia paresthetica (NP) is a sensory neuropathy characterized by localized pruritus and pain, presenting with or without a well-circumscribed hyperpigmented patch in the upper back. Abnormal sensations, such as burning, numbness, and paresthesia are often present in patients with NP. In this study, we clinically and radiologically analyzed patients with NP. The literature contains studies describing lidocaine treatments involving intravenous and topical applications for NP. We also investigated the effect of intradermal lidocaine injection on patients with NP. ⋯ Cervical degenerative changes and HNP of the C6-7 segment seem to be contributing factors for NP. Local lidocaine can be effective for pain relief and pruritus in NP.

To explore the feasibility of the metrics of diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) for investigations of the microstructural changes of spinal cord injury in patients with degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) and the correlation between Japan Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores and DKI metrics. ⋯ DKI provides quantitive evaluation to the characters of microstructure of the spinal cord damage in patients with DCM compared to conventional MR. MK values can reflect microstructural abnormalities of gray matter of the cervical spinal cord and provide more information beyond that obtained with routine diffusion metrics. In addition, MK values of GM and FA values of WM may as a be highly sensitive biomarker for the degree of cervical spinal cord damage.

Encephalopathy is an uncommon but serious presentation of lead toxicity. ⋯ There was no correlation between MRI findings and BLL. Complete recovery of brain MRI lesions was detected after cessation of opium use.
