Survival after heart transplantation (HTX) is extended due to continuous improvement of medical care, allowing enough time for coronary artery vasculopathy to develop. Data on the clinical outcome of cardiac transplantation patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) are still not extensively explored. The aim of our study was to assess whether heart transplantation itself compromises the outcome in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention and to assess survival rates as well as major cardiovascular complications in heart transplant recipients who had undergone PCI. ⋯ There was no significant difference in myocardial infarction rate, revascularization or hospitalization rates.

Aggressive medullary thyroid carcinomas (MTC) have a high mortality rate and the treatment for patients diagnosed with advanced MTC is comparatively ineffective. We hence aimed to test the effects of miR-376c-3p on MTC and to explore the relevant mechanism. ⋯ MiR-376c-3p showed suppressive effects on MZ-CRC-1 cells via targeting and downregulating HBEGF, suggesting that miR-376c-3p could potentially be targeted for the treatment of MTC.

In our study we aimed to investigate the mechanism of Wnt inhibitory factor 1 (WIF1) on regulating chondrocyte proliferation and apoptosis via reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the Wnt/βcatenin signaling pathway in osteoarthritis (OA). ⋯ Up-regulation of WIF1 would promote proliferation and suppress apoptosis of OA chondrocytes through eliminating ROS production and reduce secretion of MMPs via blocking the Wnt/βcatenin signaling pathway.

The association between mean platelet volume (MPV) to platelet count (PC) ratio and prognosis has been demonstrated in some diseases but not in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). In this study, we evaluated the ability of MPV to PC ratio (MPR) to predict short-term mortality in CAP patients. ⋯ Mean platelet volume to PC ratio was found to be positively correlated with short-term mortality. Our data indicate that MPR might be a significant predictive marker of the mortality in CAP. Further prospective studies are required to establish the exact role of MPR in CAP and other diseases.

The long-term effect of potato consumption on mortality and cardiovascular (CV) and cardiometabolic risk factors is still largely unknown. Using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) 1999-2010, we evaluted the long-term impact of potato intake on total and cause-specific (cardiovascular disease (CVD), cerebrovascular disease and cancer) mortality, and the results were next validated in a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies investigating pooled associations of potato consumption with all-cause and cause-specific death. ⋯ Our results revealed no significant effects of potato intake on long-term mortality rates, whereas higher potato consumption was adversely related to cardiometabolic risk factors. These findings should be taken into consideration for public health strategies, establishing the position for potatoes in the food pyramid.
