The development of burnout syndrome is conditioned by demographic variables, personality-related variables, ways of coping with difficulties and organizational/professional factors. Burnout is a psychological syndrome of emotional exhaustion and fatigue that may occur in people working with other people in certain ways. Understanding the role of global self-esteem and sociodemographic and work environment-related variables in the development of burnout syndrome in Polish nurses was the aim of this study. ⋯ Developing personal resources and deriving benefits from them may be important in the prevention of burnout syndrome. This study indicated the need to carry out preventive measures in the workplace to protect nurses from burnout.

Gastric cancers are the second cause of cancer related deaths all around the world but gastric carcinogenesis remains a mystery. Intestinal metaplasia (IM) and spasmolytic polypeptide expressing metaplasia (SPEM) are the two types of preneoplastic metaplasias. In this study, we aimed to investigate expression of Pancreatic duodenal homeobox 1 (PDX1), mucins (MUCs), trefoil factors (TFFs) in SPEM and IM surrounding gastric carcinomas. ⋯ PDX1 may affect the development of SPEM and IM. Expression patterns of TFFs and MUCs may indicate that IM evolves from SPEM.

H1N1 infection has a high mortality rate due to lung injury and respiratory distress. The present study determines the protective effect of toonaciliatin K against the lung injury induced by the lung infection of H1N1 influenza mice and also postulates the molecular mechanism. ⋯ Data of the study suggested that toonaciliatin K protects against lung injury in lung H1N1 lung infection by regulating the TLR-7/Myd88/NF-κB p65 pathway.

Methotrexate (MTX) causes hepatotoxicity by producing oxidative stress. Benfotiamine and irisin have protective effects against oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in irisin activity in the liver as a result of toxicity produced by MTX and the protective role of benfotiamine in the hepatotoxicity. ⋯ Our results showed that MTX caused an increase in the activity of irisin after producing toxicity in the liver. In addition, we found that benfotiamine was effective in preventing damage caused by MTX in the liver.
