This study was performed to explore the function of B-Raf proto-oncogene-activated non-coding RNA (BANCR) in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) and cisplatin resistance. ⋯ Down-regulation of BANCR reverses cisplatin resistance of cisplatin-resistant LSCC cell lines.

Unprovoked pulmonary embolism (UPE) is not rare and it is associated with an unfavorable prognosis in adults. However, the incidence and the prognosis of UPE in older adults have never been studied. ⋯ UPE is not rare in older adults with PE, and it is associated with a favorable prognosis within 1 year of admission in this population.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is very difficult to diagnose, especially in its early stages. Non-invasive diagnostic and prognostic factors for this cancer are urgently needed. The purpose of our study was to investigate whether the microRNAs (miRNAs) regulating genes involved in iron homeostasis, whose disruption is a hallmark of HCC, offer potential as diagnostic or prognostic factors of HCV-related hepatocellular carcinoma. ⋯ Circulating miRNAs that regulate the expression of iron metabolism proteins should be evaluated as promising candidates for HCV-related HCC diagnostic agents.

PCSK9 inhibitors lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and are efficacious at reducing vascular disease, however questions remain about potential effects on cognitive function. ⋯ We are unable to rule out meaningful associations of PCSK9 genetic variants with cognition, emphasising the potential need for continued pharmacovigilance for patients currently treated with PCSK9 inhibitors.

The aim of the study was to investigate the association of transient receptor potential M2 (TRPM2) channel and muscarinic acetylcholine receptor 1 (CHRM1) activity with the memorial functions that are deteriorated in surgical menopause. ⋯ In surgical menopause, in deterioration of memorial functions, hippocampal TRPM2 channel and CHRM1 activity plays an important role.
