The aim of the study was to compare the efficacy of laparoscopic versus open dismembered pyeloplasty in children. ⋯ Laparoscopic and open pyeloplasty is a highly efficient procedure employed to treat UPJO in children with comparable success rates in both groups. In experienced hands, it is possible to reduce the LP operation time to that comparable to the OP group.

The clinical courses of takotsubo syndrome (TS) and of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) seem to be very similar. However, there is limited knowledge about risk factors of poor outcomes. Low body mass index worsens the prognosis of patients with cardiovascular diseases, especially those undergoing surgical treatment. The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of the body mass index (BMI) on the prognosis in patients diagnosed with TS. ⋯ The majority of typical cardiovascular risk factors are less frequently observed in patients with TS and low body mass. Early prognosis for TS patients and low BMI is relatively favourable, whereas the 5-year follow-up is associated with extremely high mortality. Overweight patients have the best prognosis in the long-term follow-up.

Lung cancer is the malignant tumor with the fastest increase in morbidity and mortality and the greatest threat to human health and life. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) is emerging as an important regulator in many cancers. Recently, it was found that lncRNA prostate cancer associated transcript 1 (PCAT-1) was up-regulated in lung cancer, playing oncogenic roles. However, the underlying regulatory mechanism of PCAT-1 remains unknown. ⋯ Our findings demonstrate that on account of the dual function of pro-proliferation and anti-apoptosis, PCAT-1/miR-324-5p/RAP1A may be novel candidates for application in the diagnosis, prognosis and therapy of lung cancer.

The expression of MiR-135b-5p was up-regulated while Krüppel-like factor 4 (KLF4) expression was extremely low in human gastric carcinoma (GC) tissues. This study aimed to explore the role of miR-135b-5p in GC cells and its influence on various cell capacity and viability by targeting KLF4. ⋯ The inhibitory effects of ectopic KLF4 could be attenuated by co-transfection of miR-135b-5p. Collective data suggested that miR-135b-5p has a tumor-promoting role in GC cells via downregulating KLF4. Hence, inhibition of miR-135b-5p could be valuable for treatment of gastric cancer.
