Liver parameters are associated with cardiovascular disease risk and severity of stenosis. It is unclear whether liver parameters could predict the long-term outcome of patients after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). We performed an unbiased analysis of the predictive value of serum parameters for long-term prognosis after AMI. ⋯ Non-invasive parameters, including liver and renal markers, can predict long-term outcome of patients after AMI.

Adenosine and its receptors are involved deeply in the regulation of tumour biology. Purine nucleotides are released from stressed cells in states of hypoxia or radiochemotherapy-induced cell damage. Adenosine exerts its effect through the P1 family of selective receptors. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the exact role of extracellular role on biology of Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) cells. ⋯ Our results suggest that adenosine and AMP trigger cell migration by binding to P1 receptors and directing cancer cells to the sites of hypoxia or cellular damage. Specifically by A1 receptor which is overexpressed in RMS.

The aim of this work was to assess SCC function in VHIT test, using both versions of VHIT ULMER. ⋯ The examination using VHIT ULMER II appears to be a more sensitive diagnostic method than VHIT ULMER I. Improved software with automated functions such as camera adjustments, examination surface arrangement, of VHIT ULMER II, enables technician to shorten the time of examination, simultaneously providing a range of new information about the condition of oculo-vestibular system.

Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) is a chronic immune-mediated disorder defined by the combined presence of serum anti-RNP antibodies and distinct clinical features including progressive lung fibrosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate potential associations between lung fibrosis in MCTD and specific clinical and laboratory findings including results of nailfold capillaroscopy (NFC) examination. ⋯ The NFC examination should be considered in all patients with a diagnosis of MCTD. The presence of giant capillaries may be a promising marker for interstitial lung disease in these patients, especially among those with a short duration of disease (i.e. < 1 year).

Melatonin is a hormone used in the treatment of diverse pathologies due to its ability to regulate numerous physiological processes related to biological rhythms and neuroendocrine function. ⋯ Melatonin has a lower antioxidant capacity only 5% of the capacity of resveratrol. Resveratrol is the compound having the greatest antioxidant capacity. As for the influence of the tablets components, it was found that only at higher concentrations of melatonin (60 mg/tablet), with the excipients mannitol, polyvinylpyrrolidone (crospovidone), magnesium stearate and anhydrous colloidal silica, did a decrease occur in the antioxidant capacity value, possibly due to the lower percentage of these excipients in the formulation.
