Malnutrition affects 50% of hospitalized children and 25-70% of critically ill children. Enteral tube feeding is generally considered the preferred modality for critically ill pediatric patients. Clinical advantages of using peptide-based formulas are still controversial in critically ill children. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of a peptide-based formula versus a standard polymeric formula on feeding tolerance and whether this will affect the outcome among critically ill children. ⋯ Peptide-based formula feeding was better tolerated than standard polymeric formula feeding in critically ill pediatric patients. However, the choice of patients receiving the peptide-based formula needs to be further evaluated.

Although intrahospital transportation of critical patients from the emergency department (ED) is inevitable, it could also result in life-threatening situations. These situations, referred to as unwanted or unexpected events, mainly happen during the transportation of patients for diagnostic imaging or invasive procedures and result in a wide spectrum from vital condition changes, mental condition changes to cardiopulmonary arrest and death. Emergency departments have a high risk of facing such situations because these units are the first admission door of critical patients. ⋯ Intrahospital transportation of critical patients from the emergency room is a subject that should require attention by emergency room doctors, and using educated personnel, proper equipment, standardized protocols and control checklists will decrease the frequency of unwanted situations effectively.

Results conflict on the association between the XRCC2 rs3218536 polymorphism and ovarian cancer risk, despite wide-ranging investigations. This meta-analysis examines whether the XRCC2 rs3218536 polymorphism is associated with ovarian cancer risk. ⋯ This meta-analysis shows that the XRCC2 rs3218536 polymorphism was associated with ovarian cancer risk overall for high quality studies. Non-Caucasian groups and high quality studies should be further studied.

In the context of the global tuberculosis (TB) burden, children represent 10% of all cases, with high incidence rates still reported by many regions worldwide. The study aim was to determine whether there is a correlation between TB clinical diagnosis and low birth weight in children at various ages. ⋯ The correlation between clinical diagnosis of tuberculosis in children at various ages and their low birth weight was positive but was not statistically significant. However, this research hypothesis should be tested in further studies on larger population groups, due to the current public health context of "End TB", promoted worldwide.

Hospital malnutrition is very common and worsens the clinical course of patients while increasing costs. Lacking clinical-economic studies on the implementation of nutrition screening encouraged the evaluation of the CIPA (Control of Food Intake, Protein, Anthropometry) tool. ⋯ The CIPA nutrition screening tool is likely to be cost-effective in surgical but not in internal medicine patients.
