Observational Study
Simple ultrasound evaluation of fetal adrenal glands as a marker of imminent preterm birth: a preliminary report.
We present a simple 2D big ultrasound measurement of the fetal adrenal glands and their biometrical growth analysis highlighted as a potential preterm birth marker. ⋯ A simple 2D B-mode measurement of the fetal adrenal glands´ central zone growth can be applied as an additional marker in the prediction of true preterm delivery. The natural biometrical overall growth of the adrenal glands seems to be dependent on gestational age, whereas that of the central adrenal gland zone seems to be independent on gestational age (Tab. 3, Fig. 5, Ref. 26).

This study evaluated the role of ultrasound in postoperative care after major lung resection. ⋯ The use of ultrasound can reduce the number of X-ray examinations and thus lower the radiation exposure after major lung resections (Tab. 4, Ref. 30).

The aim of this study was to investigate the association of lower urinary tract dysfunctions with urinary leakage from ureterocystoneoanastomosis (UCNA) after kidney transplantation. ⋯ This study shows an association between lower urinary tract dysfunction and UCNA leakage in men without previous urological history (Tab. 2, Fig. 2, Ref. 24). The Homeostatic Measurement Assessment-Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) is a recognized and validated method which uses the levels of fasting glucose in blood and insulin of patients to evaluate the insulin resistance. ⋯ The present empirical study demonstrates that hip, chest and waist circumference on the one hand, and abdomen skinfold on the other hand are markers that are relevant to the identification of HOMA-IR index in females (Tab. 3, Ref. 33). Low levels of vitamin D are known to increase cardiovascular mortality due to different risks. We aimed to examine whether low vitamin D levels in children and adolescents cause ventricular repolarization changes. ⋯ Decline in vitamin D levels causes ventricular repolarization anomaly. As the decrease in vitamin D levels deepens, repolarization times become longer. These results could indicate that decrease in vitamin D levels can increase sensitivity to ventricular arrhythmias (Tab. 3, Ref. 45).
