Since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the most affected population group has been that of older people living in long-term care facilities (LTCFs), which has accumulated between 30 and 60 % of total number of deaths in the world. In Mexico, outbreaks have been reported in LTCFs of at least eight states. ⋯ There is evidence of the need to formally develop a National Care System that provides support to those in need of care and their families, and that includes LTCFs. In view of the challenges due to the lack of information and competencies in infection prevention and control at LTCFs, a group of experts, in collaboration with different public institutions, joined efforts with the purpose to update the guidelines in order to allow LTCFs face the pandemic and to contribute to the generation of said National Care System.

Clinical and neurophysiological description of patients with POEMS syndrome.
POEMS syndrome (polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, monoclonal protein, skin changes) is a monoclonal gammopathy with polyneuropathy as a mandatory criterion. ⋯ Electrophysiological patterns are unlikely to have a clear extra-neurological clinical correspondence; however, this will have to be definitively proven with a larger sample size.

Regional parafoveal vessel density changes have not been characterized in patients with type 2 diabetes without retinopathy. ⋯ Parafoveal inner vessel density decreases in diabetic patients without retinopathy at the expense of superior and nasal quadrants, which indicates that further evaluation is required for early microvascular disease to be detected.

Several genes determine the development of colorectal cancer (CRC), such as MLH1, which encodes a protein that participates in DNA repair. MLH1 hypermethylation has been associated with gene silencing. ⋯ We calculated a methylation frequency for the MLH1 gene of 25% in Mexican patients with CRC, with this being the first report for this population. Female patients and patients older than 45 years showed a higher frequency of methylation.

Long commute times are common in big cities. ⋯ The hearing pattern, although normal, resembled that of noise-induced hearing loss, associated with long commute times.
