Observational Study
Characteristics and mortality of Mexican patients with COVID-19 and mechanical ventilation.
COVID-19-associated mortality in patients who require mechanical ventilation is unknown in the Mexican population. ⋯ This study adds information on the presentation and results of SARS-CoV-2-infected patients who require mechanical ventilation.

Patients with diabetes experience difficulties to maintain glycemic control during the confinement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the risk of developing diabetes chronic complications and severe COVID-19. ⋯ Multicomponent diabetes care was successfully transformed from a face-to-face care modality to a telemedicine service. Many primary care patients may be candidates for telemedicine. A redesign of the care model that incorporates telemedicine should be considered to mitigate chronic diseases burden of morbidity and mortality imposed by COVID-19 pandemic, but also for the post-COVID-19 era.

Vitamin K antagonists (VKA) are a therapeutic alternative in patients with venous thromboembolic disease; however, numerous factors affect their pharmacology. ⋯ VKAs are widely used, but it is difficult for therapeutic goals to be achieved, especially in non-specialized clinical services. Creation of anticoagulation clinics is an urgent need for the Mexican health system.

The COVID-19 pandemic has also affected mental health. ⋯ Symptoms' intensity was lower than expected in comparison with that recorded in other populations, probably due to the high levels of resilience of the Mexican population.

As a result of COVID-19, many hospitals underwent a conversion for the care for this disease. ⋯ COVID-19 epidemiological behavior was similar to that described in other studies; however, lethality and mortality are above national average. The analysis of this and of the factors that favored it in our population is pending.
