Knowing if the document that supports the informed consent (IC) granted by the patient who undergoes genetic laboratory tests is legible and understandable is important. ⋯ The analyzed IC forms for LGT have low readability rates and exceed the recommended number of words. We propose an IC model for LGT in Mexico that complies with appropriate readability indexes for a correct understanding of the document.

Promoting breast cancer (BC) detection in women by means of mammography is a viable strategy to reduce the number of diagnoses at clinically advanced stages and mortality. ⋯ Although the risk of detection in categories suggestive of malignancy decreased at the national level, some States need to reinforce the application of BC detection programs through mammography and increase the participation of the target population.

Influenza is a costly disease for the population. It is a cause of seasonal morbidity and mortality, epidemics and pandemics or syndemics. Given the variability of the virus, surveillance systems are implemented in order to update the strains and include them in the annual influenza vaccine. This vaccine is currently recommended in some high-risk groups. However, universal vaccination remains controversial. To evaluate the evidence and describe the position of a panel of experts on the relevance of universal vaccination against influenza virus. ⋯ Vaccination, starting with vulnerable groups, is a necessary, ethical and cost-effective strategy. However, expanding the coverage to achieve universal vaccination could reduce the transmission of the disease and its consequences in the population.

Several genes determine the development of colorectal cancer (CRC), such as MLH1, which encodes a protein that participates in DNA repair. MLH1 hypermethylation has been associated with gene silencing. ⋯ We calculated a methylation frequency for the MLH1 gene of 25% in Mexican patients with CRC, with this being the first report for this population. Female patients and patients older than 45 years showed a higher frequency of methylation.
