The study aimed to assess the clinical characteristics of patients with nocardiosis, to evaluate the in vitro susceptibility of antimicrobial agents against Nocardia species, and to explore changes in antimicrobial susceptibilities in this era of multidrug resistance. ⋯ Considering that trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole is effective against most Nocardia species, it is the antibiotic of choice in Taiwan. Besides, amikacin, tigecycline, and linezolid showed high activity against Nocardia species and are thus good alternatives or additional therapies to treat nocardiosis, depending on patient's underlying conditions and site of infection.

Residents play an important role as teachers of junior colleagues and medical students. Clinical teaching also helps residents in clinical learning. However, the skills required for residents to be competent teachers are rarely described systemically. Beyond the widely adopted six core competencies for postgraduate training by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the teaching competencies should be further developed, and the milestones should be clearly defined to serve as better references for resident training programs. ⋯ A competency-based framework for resident-as-teacher was developed. The framework can be applied in combination with other existing competencies for holistic postgraduate training programs.

The Dispositional Flow Scale-2 (DFS-2) is an instrument for measuring the flow experiences of the general population while participating in daily activities. This study aimed to examine the equivalence in the measurement structure of Traditional Chinese DFS-2 (TCDFS-2) between the schizophrenic patients and healthy subjects. ⋯ Thus, the measurement structures of the TCDFS-2 were quite different between the schizophrenic patients and healthy subjects. The flow states experienced by the schizophrenic patients might not entirely be the same as those of the healthy subjects.

The treatment effect of myofunctional appliance therapy has remained debated. The aim of this study was to evaluate the skeletal and dentoalveolar effects in class II division I pediatric patients receiving Education Fonctionnelle (EF) myofunctional appliance therapy. ⋯ In this preliminary small sample size study, the EF group demonstrated significant upper incisor angle decrease, lower incisor angle increase, and lower incisor tip to mandibular plane distance decrease in comparison to the values measured in the control group. However, only the upper incisor angle changes were statistically significant after p-value adjustment. The skeletal effect of the EF appliance could not be verified in one-year follow-up of cephalometric data.

Digital problem-based learning (PBL) was originally introduced as a means to improve student engagement and increase flexibility. However, its use becomes mandatory during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) period, accelerating changes in medical education. Few elaborated on the implementation details of digital PBL curricula. ⋯ In this opinion piece, we gleaned multiple procedural details from our experiences based on students'/tutors' feedback, which we summarized in a 5″W″ recommendations (Who), timing/duration (When), location (Where), software/hardware/topics (What), and evaluation aspects (Why). Suggestions on how to optimally prepare for digital PBL session are also provided. We believe that these tips can further facilitate the wide adoption of digital PBL.
