Functional somatic syndromes (such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome) are often comorbid. Whether these syndromes are distinct constructs and whether they have different psychological features are interesting questions. We perform a cluster analysis based on a nationwide survey in Taiwan to answer these questions. ⋯ The results of this population-based analysis supported the existence of distinct somatic syndromes that are not parts of a single whole somatic syndrome and have different psychological features.

The need is growing to create medical big data based on the electronic health records collected from different hospitals. Errors for sure occur and how to correct them should be explored. ⋯ Significant magnitude of inconsistent data does exist during the transmission of big data from diverse sources. Systematic validation is essential. Comparing the number of data tabulated using the primary keys allow us to rapidly identify and correct these scattered errors.

Data about volumetric remodeling of the provisional extension to induce complete attachment (PETTICOAT) technique on DeBakey type IIIb aortic dissection in acute and subacute phases were scarce. The proper timing to perform this technique to promote false lumen reduction was also unknown. ⋯ For DeBakey type IIIb aortic dissection, more prominent true lumen expansion and false lumen reduction were noted when using the PETTICOAT technique in the acute phase. When performed within 36 days after symptoms onset, the PETTICOAT technique may potentiate better total false lumen regression.

Youths with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are at a high risk of involvement in school bully. The study investigated whether comorbid psychopathologies mediated the link between ASD and bullying involvement. ⋯ Our findings strongly suggest the link between ASD and later bullying involvement is mediated by pre-existing comorbid psychiatric conditions, besides the direct effect of ASD on bullying victimization. Hence, early identification and intervention of these psychopathologies are highly suggested.

The increasing prevalence of overweight and obese children and adolescents has been recognized as a public health threat worldwide. This study aimed to assess the effect of a stepwise lifestyle intervention in children and adolescents. ⋯ We developed a feasible multidisciplinary program based on knowledge education and individualized training. BMI and physical fitness scores can be used as early indicators of lifestyle change for obese children and adolescents.
