Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is a worldwide pandemic. We present the clinical characteristics and outcomes of 28 COVID-19 patients treated in our hospital in Taiwan. ⋯ COVID-19 patients with older age, higher BMI, fever, chills or shortness of breath, lower serum sodium level, lower platelet or lymphocyte count, and higher CRP level may be associated with developing pneumonia or longer quarantine duration.

To investigate the clinical feature of tuberculosis and BCG adverse effects in children and to examine whether delayed BCG vaccination changes the incidence of BCG osteomyelitis. ⋯ Children with EPTB plus PTB had more fever, lower lymphocyte count and higher CRP. The median time interval from vaccination to diagnosis of BCG osteomyelitis was 16.4 months and the proportion of BCG osteomyelitis among children with BCG-associated adverse effects was not affected by delayed vaccination in this study.

Sorafenib has been shown to prolong the progression free survival (PFS) of advanced radioiodine (RAI) refractory differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) and has been approved by the FDA as the result of the phase III DECISION trial. Sorafenib has been reimbursed for the treatment of RAI refractory DTC in Taiwan since Jan 2017. High percentage of adverse events (AE) was noted in DECISION trial. We conducted a study to show the real-world experience of sorafenib in Taiwan. ⋯ Higher maintenance dose of sorafenib is associated with longer PFS while starting from half dose is feasible to minimize the incidence of high grade toxicities in the real-world use of sorafenib.

Metabolites in blood have been found associated with the occurrence of vascular diseases, but its role in the functional recovery of stroke is unclear. The aim of this study is to investigate whether the untargeted metabolomics at the acute stage of ischemic stroke is able to predict functional recovery. ⋯ Metabolomics is a potential method to explore the blood biomarkers of acute ischemic stroke. The patients with unfavorable outcomes had a lower PAF level compared to those with favorable outcomes.

This study aimed to investigate clinical features and antimicrobial susceptibility of inpatient children with nontyphoidal salmonellosis from 2010 to 2018. ⋯ Third-generation cephalosporin was still the drug of choice for nontyphoidal Salmonella infection in children though the resistant rate increased progressively. Significant risk factors associated with bacteremia were longer fever and diarrhea duration and anemia due to either thalassemia trait or prolonged disease course in immunocompetent children.
