The Taiwan Pediatric Oncology Group (TPOG) initiated two consecutive protocols for treating pediatric patients with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) since 1994. However, the results have not been analyzed and reported. This study aimed to investigate the survival outcomes of childhood LCH at the National Taiwan University Hospital over the past 20 years. ⋯ Clinical outcomes of children with LCH in Taiwan was good. The results of this study may help in the better classification of risk grouping for protocol designs in the future.

Previous studies have shown that the development of thrombocytopenia was associated with the elevated plasma concentration of linezolid, but little is known about the relationship between other uncommon adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and plasma concentration. The appropriate dosing adjustment has remained controversial. This prospective observational study was conducted to investigate the association between the plasma concentration of linezolid, ADRs, and clinical outcomes. ⋯ Elevated linezolid concentrations were associated with thrombocytopenia and lactic acidosis. TDM-guided dosing adjustment could be considered as a pragmatic way to mitigate thrombocytopenia.

We investigated whether low skeletal muscle mass (LSMM) defined according to different muscle groups on computed tomography (CT) scans are predictive factors of survival for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). ⋯ LSMM defined by TSM and PM indices are independent predictors of poor prognosis for advanced HCC.

To establish an appropriate clinical protocol for early photoscreening in 12-to-24-month-old children at pediatric well-baby clinics. ⋯ At pediatric well-baby clinics, selective photoscreening among 12-to-24-month-old children with a birth weight <3000 g or a history of major systemic diseases helped reducing the number of children need to be screened and conserving medical resources yet identifying children at risk for timely eye care.

Cataract surgery in combination with or after trabeculectomy is often required for improving vision in glaucoma patients. Intraocular pressure (IOP) changes may influence refractive outcomes after cataract surgery. We compared refractive outcomes of the combined and sequential approaches in managing glaucoma and cataract. ⋯ Both approaches resulted in similar effective IOP control and accurate intraocular lens predictability. The IOP change affected the postoperative refraction prediction error only in the sequential approach.
