The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and identify their associated factors among a group of Lebanese dentists. ⋯ The occurrence of musculoskeletal pain in the upper extremities is a serious concern that affects Lebanese dentists. Most of them often complained of tendinitis and headaches because they do not practice sports; thus, encouraging them to practice sports may reduce or solve such health problems. Issuing brochures that include exercises to perform and hiring trained assistants could help reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders. Finally, these occupational health problems should be highlighted at all clinical and research symposia to increase awareness.

To share our experience on the presentation and management of short segment bulbar urethral strictures (BUSs) in a resource-poor center. ⋯ Fall astride injuries are the commonest cause of short segment BUSs. Prior urethral instrumentation is associated with recurrence and longer stricture lenght. Suprapubic catheter-related associated comorbidity increases with the duration of catheterization but does not impact negatively on the surgical outcome. BAU has low morbidity and high success rate of 92.7%. It should be the first line treatment for short segment BUS in low-resource countries.

Homozygous sickle cell patients are prone to renal damage which can be on-going in and out of crises, therefore, there is a need to monitor renal status using glomerular filtration rate. Equations to estimate GFR are readily available. Cockcroft-Gault equation is widely used, while the MDRD formula is the currently accepted equation. The CKD-EPI equation is recently being recommended but has not been validated among HbSS patients. Therefore, we aim to compare estimated GFR using CKD-EPI versus MDRD and Cockcroft-Gault equations among HbSS patients. ⋯ One hundred and twenty patients comprising 60 HbSS patients and 60 HbAA controls participated in the study. The HbSS patients had mean ± SD age of 26±6.7years, plasma creatinine 77 ± 17umol/L, eGFR: CG 93±31.6ml/min, MDRD 124 ± 34.8ml/min/1.73m2, CKD-EPI 122 ± 25.1ml/min/1.73m2 (pConclusion: CKD-EPI equation is best for individuals with GFR > 60ml/min/1.73m2. This study has shown that it correlates well with the currently acceptable MDRD equation, therefore, can be used to monitor the renal status of stable HbSS patients. CG gives poor correlation and bias with CKD-EPI. Further validation studies on CKD-EPI equation are needed in different patient populations.

Raoultella ornithinolytica is an encapsulated gram-negative aerobic bacillus belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family. It is one of the three species of Raoultella. Human infections related to R. ornithinolytica are exceedingly rare. This case report describes an ENT infection caused by R. ornithinolytica successfully treated with antibiotic therapy.

Efficacy of manual and mechanical instrumentation techniques for removal of overextended root canal filling material.
To compare the efficacy of manual and mechanical instrumentation techniques, including ProTaper Universal retreatment system, Mtwo retreatment system, Reciproc system, and Hedström files, regarding removal of overextended root canal filling material. ⋯ This study demonstrated that all tested systems had similar efficacy in removing overextended root canal filling material.
