This study was aimed to investigate TB patients adherence and treatment outcomes among internally displaced patients in comparison with adjacent settled areas. ⋯ Overall results of this study revealed a poor adherence to the TB treatment medications with an odds ratio of 0.286, (p<0.05) among IDPs as compared with NIDPs.

To evaluate the possible association of ABCB1 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) of the ABCB1 gene with tacrolimus dosages, concentration-to-dose ratios (CDR) and adverse effects in Pakistani liver transplant recipients. ⋯ Identification of ABCB1 rs1045642 polymorphism may shorten the time to achieve optimum levels of tacrolimus during dose titration. ABCB1 polymorphism rs1045642, rs2032582 and rs1128503 may predict adverse effects in liver transplant recipients receiving tacrolimus.

Chronic liver disease (CLD) in children present a broad spectrum of symptoms. Limited resources in Paediatric Hepatology in developing countries like Pakistan present considerable challenges in investigating and treating children with chronic liver disease in a timely fashion. This study aimed to determine the spectrum and outcomes of CLD other than chronic hep B & C virus (HBV& HCV) liver disease in children. ⋯ Autoimmune hepatitis was the most common chronic liver disease. Our systematic approach, in addition to an extensive workup, helped us to diagnose and then initiate an appropriate treatment, which resulted in a more optimal outcome. Prompt referrals to tertiary centres are recommended where resources and expertise are available to reduce patient morbidity and mortality.

Clinicians need to build an astute doctor-patient relationship. The term clinical empathy is the ability of doctor to cognitively appreciate a patient's perspective, experiences, and deliver such an understanding back to patient. Studies associate high physician empathy with improved patient trust and clinical outcomes. In Pakistan, there is paucity of research data on this relationship. This study assessed the empathy and its relation to fatigue levels among physicians and surgeons. ⋯ Overall, physicians had better empathy than surgeons, while fatigue scores were higher among surgeons. Fatigue is associated with empathy decay. This research provides an understanding of empathy deterioration and other factors responsible for it.

COVID-19 might cause thrombosis in the arterial and venous system either directly or via indirect means such as cytokine storm or hypoxia. Enoxaparin might contribute to clinical recovery in COVID-19 patients, both by reducing the risk of thrombosis with anticoagulant effect and avoiding the cytokine storm with its anti-inflammatory effect. In this study, the clinical results of prophylactic enoxaparin usage in COVID-19 patients in our hospital were investigated. ⋯ Enoxaparin treatment in COVID-19 might be effective not only anticoagulant effect but also anti-inflammatory effect that decreased the risk cytokine storm. In the patients with COVID-19 disease, starting enoxaparin treatment in the earlier stage will decrease the risk of microthrombosis in vital organs and might improve the clinical outcomes.
