Previous studies have shown an association between polymorphisms of the BAT1-NF-κB inhibitor-like-1 (NFKBIL1)-LTA genomic region and susceptibility to myocardial infarction and acute coronary syndrome (ACS). ⋯ Our data suggest an association between the BAT1 -23C/G polymorphism and protection against ACS in Mexican patients.

On January 23, 2020, China imposed a quarantine on the city of Wuhan to contain the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak. Regardless of this measure, the new infection has spread to several countries around the world. ⋯ The estimation of the time of arrival of the outbreak from its epicenter, allows for a time period to implement and strengthen preventive measures aimed at the general population as well as to strengthen hospital infrastructure and training of human resources. In the present study, this estimation was accurate, as observed from the real data of the beginning of the outbreak in Mexico City up to April 6, 2020.

Several studies have evaluated the effect of infectious diseases and vaccine protocols during pregnancy on maternal milk immunoglobulin (Ig) levels, to understand the protection conferred by lactation on newborns. Colostrum is the primary source of maternal IgA for the newborn. IgA participates in protection mechanisms in the neonate's mucosa. In humans, IgA has two subclasses with differential anatomical distribution among mucosal compartments. Total IgA levels in maternal milk vary after antigen stimulation and have differential affinities in function of the chemical composition of the antigens. We studied the effect of antigenic stimulation during pregnancy on the concentrations of specific IgA1 and IgA2 subclasses in human colostrum. ⋯ Antigen interaction during pregnancy increased the amount of specific IgA subclasses, depending on the chemical composition of the antigen.

Optimal function of the immune system allows the recognition and elimination of infected and tumor cells. However, these cells can develop mechanisms to evade the cellular immune response. ⋯ These mechanisms include a decrease in receptor activation and costimulating molecules on the surface of immune cells, as well as the constitutive expression of molecules that inhibit their function, which allow HPV persistence and tumor progression. Immunotherapy-based therapeutic options are positioned as excellent candidates for the treatment of cervical cancer.
