Operative intervention of unstable paediatric pelvic fracture: radiological and functional assessment.
The aim of the study was to add to the literature new data regarding the evaluation of surgical fixation of challenging unstable paediatric pelvic fractures, radiologically and clinically besides recording any complications through the follow-up period. ⋯ Displaced unstable pelvic fractures in children need a systematic evaluation of the injury pattern. These serious fractures should be referred for anterior ± posterior ring stabilization. Promising clinical outcomes with surgical fixation can be reached with a low rate of complications. Further large-scale studies should be conducted for the calling literature.

Surgical management and outcomes of adhesive small bowel obstruction: teaching versus non-teaching hospitals.
The relationship between surgical management of adhesive small bowel obstruction (ASBO) and hospital teaching status is not well known. We sought to elucidate the association between hospital teaching status and clinical metrics for ASBO. ⋯ Mortality and morbidity of ASBO surgery were reduced at MajT; however, time to surgery, HLOS, and rate of small bowel resection were greater. These findings may guide improvements in the management of ASBO patients.

Exocrine and endocrine functions and pancreatic volume in patients with pancreatic trauma.
Injury to the pancreas may lead to significant morbidity and mortality. We aim to assess pancreatic endocrine and exocrine functions and evaluated morphological regenerations of pancreas following partial pancreatectomy in patients with pancreatic trauma. ⋯ Patients with pancreatic trauma may develop biochemical endocrine and exocrine insufficiencies following pancreatic resection. Pancreatic volume increment requires further research in a larger study.

Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) training in a metropolitan university hospital: short-term experience with MAss Casualty SIMulation system MACSIM®.
The aim of this study was to test and validate a new hospital Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) training using MACSIM® (MAss Casualty SIMulation) system adapted to the specifications and MCI plan of a single hospital. ⋯ MACSIM-PEMAF demonstrated efficacy in fulfilling the requirements of Italian law for PEMAF implementation, testing local resources and resilience, as well as increasing the self-reported perception of the hospital staff ability to respond to a MCI.

Peri-implant femoral fractures in hip fracture patients treated with osteosynthesis: a retrospective cohort study of 1965 patients.
There are few studies on incidence rates, treatment and outcomes for peri-implant femoral fractures (PIFF) in the proximity of osteosynthesis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence of PIFF following osteosynthesis of proximal femoral fractures. ⋯ In this retrospective cohort study, in contrast to previous reports, we found a tendency to a higher cumulative incidence of PIFFs for SHD compared to modern CMN. Our results show cumulative incidences of PIFFs comparable to those described for periprosthetic femur fractures after hip arthroplasty for femoral neck fracture.
