Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
[A Randomized Control Study Comparing the Effects of Tracheal Intubation Performed either via the McGRATH® MAC or the Macintosh Laryngoscope].
The McGRATH® MAC (McGRATH) laryngoscope is a newly developed video device, which enables us to perform tracheal intubation minimally invasive. The aim of this study is to evaluate and com- pare the hemodynamic changes triggered by intuba- tion using either the McGRATH or the Macintosh laryngoscope. ⋯ The McGRATH laryngoscope is less invasive for hemodynamic parameters than the Macin- tosh laryngoscope. These findings suggest that the McGRATH laryngoscope may enable us to perform tracheal intubation less invasively.

[Ultrasound-guided Rectus Sheath Block vs Transversus Abdominis Plane Block in Children Undergoing Umbilical Hernia Repair].
Although many reports describe the usefulness of the rectus sheath block (RSB) in the umbilical hernia repair, the efficacy of the transversus abdominis plane block (TAPB) is rarely reported. The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy and technique of ultrasound-guided RSB and TAPB in children undergoing umbilical hernia repair. ⋯ TAPB provided comparable perioperative analgesia and easiness of block performance to RSB in the pediatric umbilical hernia repair.

[The McGRATH MAC Video Laryngoscope Facilitates Probe Insertion during Transesophageal Echocardiography].
A transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) probe is often inserted blindly. However, it is desirable to insert it under visual guidance because the blind technique sometimes causes difficulty and may contribute to serious, but rare, complications. This prospective study compared the usefulness of TEE insertion between a brand-new McGRATH MAC video laryngoscope (McGRATH) and a Macintosh laryngoscope (Macintosh). ⋯ There were no failures of insertion in the McG Group. Resistance during insertion was lower with the McGRATH than Macintosh. The McGRATH was shown to be very useful when inserting TEE probes.

[Efficacy of Ultrasound-guided Thoracic Paravertebral Block Compared with the Epidural Analgesia in Patients Undergoing Video-assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery].
Thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB) has proven to be safer by using ultrasound imaging. This prospective randomized study was designed to investigate postoperative pain relief and intraoperative hemodynamics in patients undergoing ultrasound-guided TPVB or epidural analgesia. ⋯ Ultrasound guided TPVB was performed affecting hemodynamics less than the epidural anesthetic. There was less postoperative analgesic effect on TPBV than on epidural analgesia after thora- coscopic surgery when continuously infusing 0.2% ropivacaine 6 ml · hr(-1).

[McGRATH® MAC Is Useful to Learn Tracheal Intubation Using a Macintosh Laryngoscope].
Learning tracheal intubation using a Macintosh laryngoscope (McL) is important although video laryngoscope is becoming popular. The purpose of this study was to compare the usefulness as a training device for intubation technique using McL with three devices; McGRATH® MAC (MAC), Airwayscope® (AWS) and McL. ⋯ The McGRATH® MAC may possess advantages compared to Airwayscope® and Macintosh laryngoscope as a training device for learning intubation technique using Macintosh laryngoscope and understanding anatomy of the larynx.
