Dexmedetomidine regulate the malignancy of breast cancer cells by activating α2-adrenoceptor/ERK signaling pathway.
Breast cancer is one of the most aggressive and pervasive cancers identified in females. Dexmedetomidine (Dex) is an efficient anesthetic used in surgery. Our study aimed to explore the role of Dex in the malignancy of breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Further, we investigate the molecular mechanism involved in the function of Dex on breast cancer cells. ⋯ These data suggest that Dex could promote the proliferation, migration and invasion of breast cancer cells through the activation of α2B-adrenoceptor /ERK signaling.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffect of different doses of dexmedetomidine on median effective concentration of propofol for anesthesia induction: a randomized controlled trial.
Dexmedetomidine, a highly selective α2-adrenergic receptor agonist with sedative and analgesic properties, is used as an anesthetic adjunct. We determined the effects of different dexmedetomidine doses on the median effective concentration (EC50) of propofol and bispectral index (BIS) values during anesthesia induction. ⋯ Dexmedetomidine significantly and dose-dependently reduced the EC50 of propofol and BIS values during anesthesia induction. A loading dexmedetomidine dose of 0.5 µg/kg significantly reduced the EC50 of propofol and BIS value, and was associated with a lower incidence of bradycardia than higher doses.

MEFV gene variation R202Q is associated with metabolic syndrome.
MEFV (Mediterranean fever) gene encoding pyrin regulates inflammatory responses. It has been shown that MEFV gene variations are associated with higher acute phase responses and altered course in the different inflammatory diseases. MEFV gene variations may affect the course of metabolic syndrome components. ⋯ To best of our knowledge, this is the first study indicating an association between MeS and R202Q mutation of MEFV gene. Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) related MEFV gene variations may contribute to the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome.

Managing ulcerative colitis in remission phase: usefulness of Casperome®, an innovative lecithin-based delivery system of Boswellia serrata extract.
Boswellia serrata extracts (BSE) have been traditionally used for the treatment of several inflammatory diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a novel delivery form of BSE (Casperome®) in Ulcerative Colitis (UC) during minimally symptomatic remission phase. ⋯ Our study showed that Casperome® supplementation attenuates symptoms associated with mild UC in remission, reducing the use of drugs and medical consultations. Therefore, our study suggests that Casperome® supplementation could represent a promising alternative approach to manage minimally symptomatic UC and maintain the remission phase.

Continuous intra jejunal infusion of levodopa-carbidopa intestinal gel by jejunal extension tube placement through percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy for patients with advanced Parkinson's disease: a preliminary study.
Levodopa is the gold standard in the pharmacological treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD) and its oral administration is associated with the development of disabling motor and non-motor complications in advanced disease. Levodopa is rapidly metabolized and has a short plasma half-life thus requiring frequent, repeated dosing. Impaired gastric emptying is common in PD, and likely contributes to the unpredictable motor responses observed with orally-dosed levodopa. A new therapeutic protocol for patients with advanced PD include a carbidopa/levodopa combination using continuous, modulated enteral administration achieved inserting a Jejunal Extension Tube Placement through Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG-J). The aim of this work is to assess efficacy and safety of levodopa-carbidopa intestinal gel (LCIG) delivered continuously through an intrajejunal percutaneous tube (PEG-J). ⋯ Our work shows that continuous intrajejunal infusion of LCIG ensures a reduction in motor Fluctuations compared to oral administration of levodopa-carbidopa in advanced PD. Based on our results and on the evidence emerging in the literature, this therapeutic approach should be the gold standard for therapy in these patients.
