Randomized Controlled TrialSupraglottic jet oxygenation and ventilation during colonoscopy under monitored anesthesia care: a controlled randomized clinical trial.
Supraglottic jet oxygenation and ventilation may provide active pulse oxygenation and ventilation in patients with respiratory suppression. This randomized controlled clinical study was designed to determine the efficacy and safety of supraglottic jet oxygenation/ventilation during monitored anesthesia care (MAC) by intravenous (IV) infusion of propofol in patients undergoing colonoscopy. ⋯ SJV can provide adequate oxygenation/ventilation during monitored anesthesia care and convenient monitoring for patients' breath, without complications.

Plasma microRNA-21 is a potential diagnostic biomarker of acute myocardial infarction.
Previous studies have demonstrated that microRNA-21 (miR-21) is involved in the pathogenesis of myocardium infarction and cardiac fibrosis; the present study aimed to investigate its potential role in the diagnosis of acute myocardium infarction (AMI). ⋯ Plasma miR-21 may be a novel biomarker for the diagnosis of AMI. Our study may also provide implications for the development of new biomarkers.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of the treatment effects of methoxamine and combining methoxamine with atropine infusion to maintain blood pressure during spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery: a double blind randomized trial.
Hypotension is a common complication of spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery. Atropine is a vagus nerve blocker that can antagonize vagus excitation to mitigate the reflex bradycardia. We aimed to assess the effect of methoxamine-atropine therapy in treating spinal anesthesia hypotension for cesarean section. ⋯ Methoxamine-atropine combination has a similar efficacy to methoxamine alone but has an increased hemodynamic stability and a less adverse effect occurrence.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe effects of N-acetylcysteine on pulmonary functions in patients undergoing on-pump coronary artery surgery: a double blind placebo controlled study.
To investigate the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on pulmonary function tests and arterial blood gases in patients undergoing on-pump coronary artery surgery. ⋯ This study demonstrated that NAC administration in COPD patients undergoing on-pump coronary artery surgery resulted in the preservation of pulmonary functions.

Randomized Controlled TrialSedoanalgesia for cardioversion: comparison of alfentanil, remifentanil and fentanyl combined with propofol and midazolam: a prospective, randomized, double-blind study.
Electrical cardioversion (EC) is a short but painful procedure to restore sinus rhythm. The aim of this study is to compare the effect of fentanyl, remifentanil and alfentanil in association with propofol and midazolam for elective EC. ⋯ Propofol alfentanil combination has more beneficial advantages in their rapid onset, early recovery time and less respiratory depression than remifentanil and fentanyl.
