The outcomes of surgical treatment modalities to decrease "near miss" maternal morbidity caused by peripartum hemorrhage.
The treatment of patients with peripartum hemorrhage is unfortunately characterized by inadequate treatment that does not adhere to standard therapeutic measures. ⋯ The efficiency of B-Lynch compression brace sutures and the Bakri balloon uterine tamponade system is unpredictable in terms of the need for hysterectomy for peripartum hemorrhage patients diagnosed as either uterine atony or placenta previa. Regardless of the initial diagnosis, these modalities seem to be more effective in alleviating peripartum hemorrhage when accompanied by hypogastric artery ligation.

The platypnea orthodeoxia syndrome (POS) is a rare condition characterized by dyspnea and hypoxia in upright position. Pathopysiologic underlying mechanisms are determined by an atrial right-to-left shunt. ⋯ Classically, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography in supine and upright position with use of contrast medium and/or Doppler will point the diagnosis. Treatment is predominantly carried out by interventional closure of atrial septal defect that promptly resolves clinical symptoms.

Anti-CD11c antibody, Efalizumab attenuate ventilator-induced lung injury.
The pathophysiology of ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) involves multiple mechanisms including inflammation and inflammatory cells infiltration. The anti-CD11c monoclonal antibody, Efalizumab has been demonstrated to inhibit the T cell activation, migration and adhesion to keratinocytes. ⋯ Our data suggested that Efalizumab could protect rat from ventilator-induced lung injury and improve the survival time through the inhibition of intrapulmonary inflammatory response.

Case ReportsTwo cases of Brown-Séquard syndrome in penetrating spinal cord injuries.
Brown-Séquard syndrome due to a stab injuries is uncommon and results from a lesion in one half of the spinal cord. ⋯ As the neurologic improvement depends on the type and severity of the spinal cord damage, the indications for acute surgical management are limited and conservative management should be preferred.
