Controlled Clinical Trial[Effects of uvulopalatopharyngoplasty surgery on subsequent continuous positive airway pressure in patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome].
To determine the effect of uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) therapy on post-surgery continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment during non-rapid eye movement (NREM) and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep in patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS), and to evaluate the use of Bi-level positive airway pressure (BiPAP) in whom CPAP therapy failed. ⋯ In a considerable number of patients with OSAHS, UPPP may compromise the applicability of nasal CPAP as a subsequent therapy, and BiPAP might be a treatment option for patients who could not tolerate CPAP treatment.

[The changes and implications of plasma orexin-A levels in patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome].
To explore the changes and implications of plasma orexin-A levels in patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). ⋯ The plasma orexin-A levels in OSAHS patients are increased which may be caused by repeated nocturnal hypoxia due to OSAHS. Orexin-A may play a crucial role in the regulation of the sleep-arousal process.

[Experimental study on the expression and function of aquaporin-1 and aquaporin-5 in rats with acute lung injury induced by lipopolysaccharide].
To investigate whether the expression and function of aquaporin-1 (AQP-1) is altered by tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) in primary rat lung microvessel endothelial cells (LMECs) after exposure to lipopolysaccharide (LPS), and to study the expressions of AQP-1 and AQP-5 in lung tissue of rats with acute lung injury (ALI) induced by LPS. The aim is to further clarify the pathogenesis of ALI/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ⋯ AQP-1 and AQP-5 may play a role in abnormal fluid transportation and probably involve in the formation of pulmonary edema in ALI/ARDS.

[Effects of antihypertensives on arterial responses associated with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome].
To investigate whether antihypertensive medications ameliorate the changes in arterial stiffness and blood pressure associated with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). ⋯ Systemic blood pressure increases significantly during the post-apneic phase of OSAHS even with the combined antihypertensive therapy which normalizes awake BP in the hypertensive patients. However, increases in arterial stiffness during obstructive events can be ameliorated by combined antihypertension medications, in contrast to increased arterial stiffness seen in normotensive OSAHS patients or hypertensive OSAHS patients on no such medications.

[Ventilatory and hemodynamic effects of continuous positive airway pressure in dogs with acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema].
To investigate the ventilatory and hemodynamic effects of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema (ACPE) in dogs. ⋯ ACPE induced rapid breath, elevated Pt and decreased CVP and CO. Proper CPAP can improve CO by regulating Pt, hence the improvement of other hemodynamic parameters.
